Right now, he’s [Colangelo] not sure. The situation, as Colangelo likes to say, is fluid.

The NBA’s economic picture is changing. Projections are that BRI – basketball-related income – may fall by as much as 5 per cent league-wide, the luxury tax threshold and salary cap with it. Toss in the possibility of a labour stoppage in 2011, with ownership determined to drive salaries down and giving a player not named LeBron James or Kobe Bryant or Dwight Howard or Dwyane Wade – peers of Bosh’s with a track records of NBA playoff success – may hamstring a franchise for years to come.

“We have to be very careful – as every team does – with regard to the commitments being made, including a commitment to Chris,” Colangelo said.

“[The economic outlook] has to be something you factor in. Is it prudent for this organization to go forward and give him a $130-million contract?”

Is he anywhere near as good as the other Max type guys? I don't get it.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Colangelo should be sending Bosh bouquets and love letters... not talking about life without him.

they really are committed to playing euro ball. Maybe Cleveland will kick the tires and throw Lebron another bone.

Is any player worth $130m? Even Lebron?

To some extent the recent turn of economic events, I think, might be less of a dip and more of a long term correction.

Bosh is not worth a max contract. He is not really a franchise player. He is an excellent player but not at the level of LBJ, Kobe, Wade.

I really don't want Bosh for any amount to be honest, I don't think he's that good.

As to Bosh. Or, BARSH as Clyde calls him.

I just don't know. He's a great player but for some reason he's not say Bron or Wade or Dirk great. Meaning...he doesn't make a 20 win team a 50 win team. He seems to make a 20 win team a 30 win team. Well, that's pretty much what David Lee does.

So would you put a max contract in Bosh's pocket? I'm not so sure.

Toronto's lack of success in the post season can't be helping Bosh's case either.

He's never accomplished anything.

I think Bosh is a far more realistic possibility than Lebron or Wade. If Toronto underperforms, Walsh should approach the Raptors about a trade of Lee and Harrington for Bosh. I would then try to sign Lebron and then resign Bosh. It is my understanding under the CBA, you can sign a free agent to a new deal before resigning your own free agents even if after the signings you are over the cap. Thus, we may be able to give Lebron a max deal, and then resign Bosh to a max deal that goes over the cap because we would have his Bird rights.

A team of Nate, Chandler, Lebron, Bosh, and Darko would be the best in the East.

Trust the Process

If we had money for 2 max guys, i would throw the max at Bosh -- but after wrapping up LBJ first.

that is incorrect. you must re-sign your own guy first.

you just have a cap-hold for your old guy that you need to renounce, or if the caphold is low enough so that the cap is not exceeeded, you can wait til after signing the FA.

The problem with FA is you *have* to usually overpay. Is Chris Bosh a maximum player--YES He 25 years old and has been a 22.5-10r-2.5 a 1 block guy 50% the last 4 years. Is he Lebron James or Kobe Bryant---nope but that really doesn't matter. Someone will give him a max contract--there is NO doubt about it. In fact for BC to come out and say anything about Bosh in a negative way is kind if stupid even if he feels that way.

Dj--would you take Mcgee Young Criterion a number 1 pick and an ending contract for Bosh? I would take it for D Lee--to much risk keeping Lee even though he is the best player. If we stall and someone offers D Lee 12mm per for 5 in minute 1 of FA--I don't think D Lee is going to turn that down--who would? So we could lose an all star level player like Lee for nothing. If we don't get Lebron James that is an enormous step back.

If we decide to keep Lee they have to pony up--this team is VERY complicated in terms of structure. We could have a decent team this year and than lose the entire face of it for a player like Joe Johnson who will be 31? I hope that is not the case. If we can resign DLee and add Bosh---that would be awesome. But can it be done?

LeBron and Kobe are the only max players imho. Wade, CP3 are close. Max players to me are players that you can surround with above average players and still contend for the championship. The 2nd tier superstars need another superstar or at least an all-star type to get them there.

we really need to dump Fishlips or Curry so we can land 2 max guys this offseason... signing Bosh to the max w/o Lebron is just putting a bandaid over a gaping flesh wound.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

Bosh ain't no max guy. Please.

Wade, Lebron, CP3 and Kobe. Otherwise, it's tier two.

I read somewhere Wade is the most likely to leave out of everyone. Not sure how true it is but yeah.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.
