I was actually looking forward to following Griffin this year. He is an unselfish player- the type who will dive on the floor for a ball, which is not alway a good thing for a man his size. He also seems like a good kid- the kind a coach likes to use as a model for younger athletes to look at.

Los Angeles Clippers’ rookie forward Blake Griffin may miss up to six weeks with a stress fracture of his left patella suffered during the Clippers’ last preseason game vs. the New Orleans Hornets on Friday, October 23rd.

Griffin was the first overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft out of Oklahoma.

I was also hoping to watch the development of Batum, who played in Europe when Gallinari was playing, and he got injured also.

Portland Trail Blazers forward Nicolas Batum will undergo surgery on his right shoulder to repair a torn labrum, it was announced today by General Manager Kevin Pritchard. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Friday in Los Angeles at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic. A timeline for Batum’s return will be determined following surgery.

Not a good start for these young guys, or for their teams (especially LA).

You just cannot anticipate an injury and the impact it may have on your season.

I also took a more "personal" hit with Leon Washington getting hurt yesterday. He is my favorite player to watch in the NFL, and now he is out for the year.

So it goes.

Ouch. The patella is never good. Didn't McDyess have a severe injury on his patella? Hopefully Griffin recovers and sustains a long career.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Damn man that sucks for Blake...but from what I understand Patella tendon surgery is a faster recovery....unlike ligament damage. Patella is the actual knee cap...and yeah its the same injury McDyess had....so Blake will be fine. Dude is still young.

I feel like this was a disaster waiting to happen. This is another guy I didn't like going into the draft. Dude's a beast, but he's a beast with a lot of issues.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Speaking from personal experience patellas are difficult to come back from and be the same as you were before. McDyss did have patella injury with the Knicks. Mine was ruptured patella tendon. I don't know if that is diierent medically than a fracture. Patella is your knee cap and mine shifted to what seemed like my thigh (actually an inch or two above where is should be).

Clipper curse strikes again.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

sucks, no two ways about it.

also shows why building through the draft is as big a crapshoot as other methods.

building a winning team has as much to do with luck as skill.

Curse, Bad luck, or its tough to draft!

Clips have years and years of bad high picks so its to relate to the knicks its tough to bank on getting a franchise player. Lotto balls can be cruel as Pitino learned when Tim Duncan turned into Chauncy Billups and in impatience won over and a hasty trade was done!

Griff can be this years Odom or Gallo any way you look at it.

Enjoy the rebuild and stay patient my friends!

Does the word STEROIDS ever come to mind when you watch Blake Griffin.

It's just a hunch but he's so unusual in his physical make-up and explosion and I hear so many things about his awesome workouts.

Just wondering if some of his injuries are do to his body doing things it wasn't naturally built for.

One would have to think he would be tested? I think its very common for 20 year olds to work out too much and then experience injury their rookie seasons.

Lebron was the same way be has stayed healthy. Lebron is a freak.

Even if Blake Griffin was 100% healthy he was not a guaranteed superstar. But if he loses his explosion or has to pull back on the way he plays his game because he is fragile I don't think he has the skill to be a very good NBA player. His game is built on his physical talent.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

I can see his lateral quickness being affected the most.

This was a non-contact injury too. Livingston, Odom and Griffin would be a sweet all rehab team.
