Alan Hahn of Newsday via his blog Knicks Fix
- If you're a Knicks fan, it must have made your morning to read Starberman's story today. And Stephon, clearing needing to stay relevant while the rest of us try to move on, didn't just take convenient shots at the Knicks, he recently attacked Paul Pierce on twitter.

Like Grand Puba said, "I don't diss nobody to be somebody."

Although he says he's not ready to announce his retirement, Stephon Marbury said yesterday he has "shut everything down," taking the season off to work on his businesses and claims he will return to the NBA next season.<p>
</p><br>
Marbury also could not keep himself from ripping his hometown team and coach Mike D'Antoni for their poor preseason play, calling them "a mess."<p>
</p><br>
Marbury went unsigned as a free agent this summer after turning down Boston's veteran minimum offer ($1.3 million) in July. Marbury said he plans to attend the Knicks' home opener Oct. 31 vs. the Sixers with his kids.<p>

"I'm just talking as a fan and New Yorker who grew up loving the Knicks: why would I give you my money to watch them?" Marbury told The Post. "This is atrocious. Guys coming down court, just raising up 3-pointers from anywhere. The coaching is horrible. What kind of coaching is this?<p>

"If they shoot like that in the game, imagine how they shoot in practice. New Yorkers deserve better decisions form the front office and New York City has to deal with this mess."<p>

Marbury doesn't see this squad enticing Cavs superstar LeBron James when he becomes a free agent after this season.<p>

"LeBron isn't coming to a rebuilding team," Marbury said. "Why would he come to a rebuilding team? It makes no sense. Is this franchise built to win a championship or to make money?"<p>

The Knicks, who play host to the Nets tonight, have shot 12 of 72 from 3-point range their last two losses.<p>

"I'm resting, doing what Michael Jordan did, enjoy life, do things I haven't done in 16 years, keep building my empire," Marbury said. "I wasn't going to Boston for that money. It was a prudent business decision to take off this year."<p>

He didn't have many options. Some believe he rattled the NBA establishment for hosting a 24-hour Ustream show in July during which he swallowed Vaseline because he lost his voice.<p>

I don't want to read about Marbury, Eny. I think that ship sailed long ago. Time to move on.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

marbury sounds like many of the people here who are so quick to trash everything related to the knicks.

note that it's never a good thing that you think the same way as marbury.

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

He's been calling Berman "Starberman" for as long as I remember.

I definitely need new running/working out shoes. I keep losing the feeling in my toes whenever I wear them now.

swallowed vaseline? WTF? My rottweiler ate a tub of vaseline once. Poor girl had that stuff oozing out her ass for days. Had to lock her in the kitchen. So nasty. Marbury is the most mentally challenged athlete in NY history me thinks.

The thing that makes me laugh is the part of him being a fan and a NYer. You had a chance to play for your hometown team and become a legend...instead you are a laughingstock!

I take the truth to be the opposite of whatever he says!

This was not shown on his 24-hours show. I mean the back side of vaseline heritage treatment.
So they lock him in the kitchen with the girl and... Probbaly vaseline was very useful...

It amazes me how delusional Marbury is. Now he is comparing himself to Jordan by saying he is taking a year off. News flash, Jordan at 33 yrs old was offered a hell of alot more than $1.3 million to play and that was over ten years ago. dude, you are on a forced sabbatical because no one will sign you. And unless you are willing to take $1.3 million next year, you will not be playing next year either. Marbury has to be one of the dumbest people in the world. He basically destroyed his future earning capacity fighting with the Knicks over $1-2 million dollars.

Yup. That was so dumb. The moment pre-season ended and it was apparent he wasn't part of the plans the smart business man would have played good soldier long enough to quietly negotiate a harmonious buy out. Then on his way out, spoken of how classy the organization is(no matter how wronged he felt) and that he was ready to get his career started elsewhere. He was in such good shape at training camp and played so well during pre-season he would have been signed in short order. Then he would have had the entire year to get his game in order and play for the next big contract. Instead he pouted. Demanded attention. Bad mouthed the organzation. Right or wrong he confirmed other teams fears. His skills eroded as he sat basically for the second straight year. And now.............
