I didn't see this brought up here... is doing away with morning shoot arounds at home games.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/13/sports/basketball/13knicks.html?ref=basketball&pagewanted=print

Coach Mike D’Antoni, ever the nonconformist, is eliminating the morning shootaround for all home games this season, starting with Tuesday’s exhibition against the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Knicks instead will gather for an afternoon meeting and walk-through at Madison Square Garden. The change saves everyone from having to commute twice in a day, first to the team’s Westchester training center (for the shootaround), then to Midtown (for the game).

It also gives players a little more time to shake off the cobwebs. So rather than roust themselves for a groggy gathering at 10 a.m., the Knicks will have the morning to themselves. They must report to the Garden by 3:30 p.m.

If the players are for it I guess it can't hurt.

sounds like it makes a lot of sense

in all seriousness, that could help with the slow, sluggish starts to games
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Fielding a team of hard working players with pride would help.

Gee, poor players. They make $4M-$10M per year to play on eighty days of the year and its too much to wake up for morning shoot around? Awww...

whether or not the group has pride or parties too much, I think it makes a lot of sense - they will end up spending more time together, and right before the game. And I wouldn't under estimate the value of a meal together in terms of bonding/chemistry.

When I want to bond with people, I eat meals with them.

This is a good move by MDA, ever the thinker. He's always thinking something up. But I always thought morning shoot arounds were important, but they're not now, so now we will have fresher legs. +1

Maybe this will give a competive adavantage over teams that want to enjoy the NY nightlife. Good thinking Mike.
Seiously I hope he has some non gimmicky ideas to improve the team. I'd start with an emphasis on defense.

Does anyone really know weather this is a good idea. We just came off a game where we shot 3-30 on three's..seems like shoot around may have help..and although that was on the road, this is a jump shooting system that requires legs and and shooting skills.. This can go either way.

I mean, I would just dorm the players up during the season so they live in the same building and are never allowed out. This would ensure more bonding.

they still have a time period for shooting the ball, it's just not in the morning. That's my understanding.

Send the players to group activities, like cheering together as they watch the next UK bball game
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

or be a good excuse for Duhon to go boozing every night

Duhon don't need no excuse. He'll go boozing whether he has to wake up at 6, 8, 12 or 2 pm. I'm actually serious.

Didn't Vin Baker admit that he drank before games and even sometimes at halftime? I'm sure Drunkhon is no different. He is a bum. It would be great if he would play well again to start the season so we can somehow convince a team to take him and jj off our hands for another 2010 expiring. Or hell, even a pick would be nice for Duhon.

PG-Douglas/Nate

I don't see the problem with that in the throwaway year this is.

LOL. Dude, Duhon is nowhere near Vin Baker no matter how much he likes to party. Baker was a straight-out drunk. Duhon just has fun in the evenings. But Chris Mullin was also a noted drunk.

A) How exactly is this a gimmick? This is the epitome of MANAGEMENT...creating what one hopes will be the most effective conditions for workers to succeed...i ain't saying it will work, but you have to try new things when you could see it working...

B) Have you been on hiatus during training camp and pre-season or something?...There has been a clear emphasis on defense that has been public and evident...even some critics of mda here have acknowledged it.

Calm down...don't get you panties in a bunch...
a) It will be a gimmick if it doesn't result in more wins
b) I've heard talk of more defense but haven't seen it yet
c) I think it is a good idea (as I mentioned in the first post)

That's my understanding too Martin. That 10am "shoot around" is not a full blown practice. Its actually bull****. I'd rather the guys get to msg early and get everything settled, eat and get ready as a team. 4 hours before games is good enough for me.
