Clearly he is not starting worthy yet in this league. If we are trying to develop the team--maybe it would be smart to make a second unit that consists of


Gallinari
Hill
Douglas
along with Nate as the veteran and use this second unit as an energy unit--the guys can get used to playing with each other with no pressure. Honestly you dont draft someone 8 and not play them on a 30 win team. Build up a chemistry between the players who will likely be here and let them play through troubles

Gallinari is depending way too much on the 3--I would advise him to play a game where he focuses on everything BUT the 3.

add Douglas to the list. Even if he has a wide open shot, I would like to see him take a few steps in and then shoot.

I agree with this. I DO like how they had him guarding Pierce, but on the offensive end, the guy has the talent to do other things, so he definitely should work on establishing all of that, b/c the shot WILL always be there.

He does put up a good effort defensively though. He just seems to get a little confused as to where to be at times.

Fair point. Is this by HIS choice, or by order of MDA, in order to spread things out a bit? I still sense that he is too ready to defer to other guys on the team, and not willing to assert himself, especially in terms of driving to the basket. I would also like to see the Knicks set some picks for him so he can take some shorter jumpers, although the fact that Gallinari was not hitting his shots yesterday is not a concern.

My big thing with all players, especially rookies, is that they have to find a level of comfort in a system, and this has not happened with Gallinari yet. The same is also true of Hill and Darko, IMO. Douglas seems to be understanding his role on offense, though. You are right when you point out that he is not a guy who finishes above the rim, but he seems more comfortable on the floor.

Limited action last yr and basically an offseason without being able to work on his game until he was cleared to play it's reasonable for Gallo to be having some early issues. I'm not really that concerned. If this was the way he was playing 3 qtrs of the way thru the season I'd be upset. However in game 2 of the preaseason against the Celtics it's not time to panic.

If he's not a starter MDA will have no problem bringing him off the bench. I still want to see them give the young guys a chance to work it out. That's the value of preseason! It's the perfect time to work on all this.
TD is gonna need a lot more work on his shot. Still he needs to learn what his current range is an work to take shots he can make at this stage of his development.

I have been concerned since June of 08 because I didn't think he was the right pick. I am a bit of a pessimist with Gallo but his situation seems similar to Curry's. I kept reading about how great he looked in practice, how great he felt etc. and now he isn't in game shape and is struggling. Last night I watched the Yankees more than the Knicks but I kept track of the game thread and several people posted that Gallo was holding his back when he walked off the court.

offense looked confused last night. credit the celts D. also, shows that MDA needs to stress discipline in the face of adversity. as hard as it may be, you can't revert to one-on-one, 3-point chucking when the D gets tight. in fact, quite the opposite, when the D tightens up is exactly when you should execute to the fullest. definitely fault MDA for not instilling the discipline. definitely fault the players for giving up on the plan too easily.

Last night was a cluster**** game. I hate the Celtics. Just throw it out and don't draw any conclusions from it. Let the same lineup gel over a few ****ing games before saying anything definitive ****ing damn it.

i thought we were going to see some run/gun stuff by now. but i see lee slowing down on transition purposely and im thinking that doesnt look right. where's the run/gun play where lee calls for the ball and scores two on a fast break. ny has athletic legs no need to play at a curry pace. get lee jeffries gallo al nate on the run anytime they're on the floor.

Lee has to slow down so he can set the drag screen for the guards. They want Lee to bring out the big man this year so they have more room to operate that is why he needs to hit the outside shot this year.

I wouldn't draw too many conclusions from last night's game, I thought it was a weird one.

Gallo took good shots for the most part, they just haven't been falling. I don't know if its because of his legs or what, but his shots were on target at least. I would like to see him get the ball more and create for himself and others. However, he didn't seem to get the ball much last night. I think D'Antoni needs to emphasize that the ball should be in Gallo's hands more and Gallo himself needs to go out and get the ball more.

The only thing that frustrates me about this team is there are times when they move the ball beautifully and get a great open shot and then follow that up with several straight possessions of one guy dribbling up the court and taking a quick contested shot.

I'm not too worried though because I think for the most part, they are getting good shots. Unfortunately, those shots just didn't go in last night. There will be nights like that.

this is not Lee's job realistically, it's everyone's job to hustle down court and for the PG to push the ball first. Duhon seemed to slow that up. Don't know why but I wasn't paying close attention.

o ok. it looks oddly though. its like a fast paced half court team, if they ran the floor full court it would take advantage of the knicks advantages.

Only got to see Knicks in 60. Too many guys throwing up threes, not enough penetration to the basket. Even the kickouts were to guys on the perimeter, not to cutting players. A conventional 3 pointer (a and 1) gets you two free throws. Little was said about Gallinari holding his back as he came out of the game? Any news?

C - Milicic / Fishlips / Curry
PF - Lee / Hill
SF - Harrington / Gallinari
SG - Chandler / Hughes
PG - Duhon / Robinson / Douglas

Mike D needs to say Darko do not go further than five feet from the hoop and he needs to learn how to P+R. Why in the world is he taking 25 footers? He should be taking lay ups and dunks and nothing else. He could be better if the coach enforces him staying near lane to post up deep or roll to the basket. If he can find good position and we get some penetration he will have some easy baskets--his basketball IQ isnt high. It's his mind that holds him back--he doesnt know how to play like a 7 footer.

Actually Hillwas much improved trying to get into the post compared to game 1. You could see him trying to roll to the hoop and get good position. that is why he was able to get a some easy one's albeit against third stringers who were giving 50% effort. However his effort should be rewarded with playing time that counts.
