"D'Antoni also said the starting five is not about who is better, "it's who fits that group." For example, he said, Manu Ginobili "has been a sixth man for a lot of years and a lot of those years he's been an all-star."

Over and over, there are posts here about some guy who Briggs or others feel is a better player than those currently on the Knicks' roster. "Why can't we bring him in here?" gets frequently asked. It is specifically not about who is the best player in an abstract sense. Rather it is about who is the best player fitting our system's requirements. If the guy isn't an intelligent passer, who also runs the floor well, and who is also capable of playing defense, he likely doesn't fit. The fact than D'Antoni thinks that way is illustrated by his liking the intangibles that Jeffries bring to the table enough to be considering starting him. Its very easy to find a player that "looks" better than Jeffries. Looking good is not enough... .

Great post. I agree with your assessment and it shows that we finally have head coach and a GM that has a plan and will stick to it. We haven't had this kind of leadership since Jeff's Civic left and Checketts and Grunfeld made the deals.

I don't know if you're giving some of the posters here enough credit. Some of us are just asking for random players, some are putting more thought into who fits.

Most of the intelligent draft discussion surrounded "fit" within the offense, and the current/future roster.

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Great point! I get tired all the 20/20 hindsight too. We should've drafted his guy or traded for that guy. It may have some merit, but I actually trust MDA and Walsh. These guys know what winning players look like and how to put together winning rosters and lineups on the floor. However it also takes time when you start to rebuild a ruined team.

MDA is gonna look to put his most unselfish and cohesive units on the floor. Al may be one our best players but if he stops the flow of he offense he may be better off the bench like Nate. They'd be going against the 2nd stringers and I think they'd kill those guys. We have two sets of starters but no All Stars! That could be effective just the same. It'll be interesting to see what MDA ends up going with.

I can't stand Jefferies, but I think it's about balance and we need to get the guy on the floor. Starting him allows Lee to get some time at his natural position. It also gives us a great bench to bring in. If he can continue to hit a few open shots maybe we can get rid of him at the deadline.

When someone says they bought a hybrid I always hope they mean some type of half-human, half-animal creature. I am always disappointed.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

When you win 30 games Y-YX10 -- I guess asking for better players isn't that much of a stretch? I mean you always want to get the best players. I argue that we should've taken Dejuan Blair 30 because I felt he was the best player available--why doesnt he fit any system? Good coach can do it with any good player.

I liked our pick at 30. I have no issues with that at all. We needed an upgrade at PG and Toney Douglas looks like he will be an excellent defender at the NBA level and at worst at least as good at running an offense as Duhon. I think we did just fine there.

The one guy I think I am wrong on is Lopez. I was not impressed at all with him in college and it looks like he could be an all star center. I am still high on Gallo however and it looks like he can really be a bigtime player.

Overall I am happy with Walsh. We dont just need different players, we need better ones. Isnt that what 2010 is all about? If we cant sign a bigtime FA you will see Lee resigned and we will use our cap space to trade for an all star

I dunno if he comes out this year...but Solomon Alabi has at times reminded me of Olajawon.
