Warriors could send Jackson to Knicks
By Mark Miller

Golden State Warriors forward/guard Stephen Jackson(notes) asked for a trade earlier this year and it's looking like he might get his wish, according to the New York Post. Warriors head coach Don Nelson is saying he's likely to trade Jackson.

Earlier in the off-season Jackson said he'd like to go to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the New York Knicks, or "anywhere in Texas." It's not believed the Cavs have any place for him and who knows if anybody in Texas wants Jackson but it is believed that Knicks president of basketball operations Donnie Walsh has some interest in making such a deal since he's had a hard time attracting talented players to his team and, more importantly, Jackson's contract runs out next summer.

Walsh has been trying to get as many expiring contracts onto the squad as possible, it appears, because there are so many big-name free agents available next summer, including Amar'e Stoudemire(notes), Chris Bosh(notes), Dwyane Wade(notes), and LeBron James(notes).

SJax has four years $35M left on his deal. This writer says he has an expiring contract and he apparently gets paid to write this stuff.

How's this:

Knicks trade Curry. That's 2 years at 10 per.

Knicks get SJax, AC Law (filler). That's 1 year of 10mm combined per, then subsequent 3 years at 7.8mm per.

So, salary wise its a 2009 wash. Then next summer, we actually lower our salary cap committment by 2.2mm. And get a far better player.

The downside is 2 years of 7.8mm salary committment beyond 2010.

Personally, I'm looking at Raja Bell as someone the Knicks might target.

Stephen Jackson? Really? I'm sure DW still remembers what happened in Detroit.

regardless of his background, sjax will put asses in the seats if treaded to ny. he is an enigmatic player - and can bust anyone's ass on any given night. just dont want him staying out past 10pm in nyc or else its over!

Knicks need some veterans. Jackson for Jeffries straight up, get it done.

We could have just kept Jamal then. SJ's a little better but barely. Maybe if they throw in expirings (Claxton and more) and take both Jeffries and Curry) but I can't see them doing that.

Honestly, if you can swing something for BOTH Bell and SJax using Curry and Jefferies, I say swing for the fences....

Incoming Players
Speedy Claxton(Cut/Expiring at end of year)
Stephen Jackson

Outgoing Players
Eddy Curry
2nd rounder
$3 mil

The turn around and:

Incoming Players
Dontell Jefferson(Cut)
Alexis Ajinca(Team Option after the year)
Raja Bell(FA who would make an excellent vet leader/backup to Wilson)

Outgoing Players
Jared Jeffries
$3 mil

Jared's MLE contract gone.

David
Gallo
SJax
Wilson
Duhon

Nate, Bell, Al, Darko, Hill.

Net savings of doing this is $8.5-$10 mil in 2010. We would be at around $11 mil.

btw - if there was any truth to the N8/Jeffries to GSW rumor before the deadline, maybe this is back in play again. Not sure if N8 can be traded, but I think the numbers would work for Jackson if's 50% of N8's salary is around 2M

Steph jax is a cold blooded assassin. Hes a ride or die teamster, that can play or defend 4 positions. His leadership is needed but Knicks have harrington, Gallo, and wilson. Would I trade wilson.

I think Wilson will make a great sixth man. We need to keep him for when we have better players, he'll be a force off the bench

One number to remember about Jackson before trading a young player like Chandler - his age.

NO WAY I MAKE WILSON COME OFF THE BENCH!!! That will mess up his mind and he might regress. Hes gotta keep his starting job. IMO I just wouldnt do it.

I meant after we have better palyer's, for instance, James and Jackson. If Jackson plays 2 and James 3, then Wilson is the sixth man...Wilson, a really good defended who can pass and score off the bench would be right up there for 6th M.O.T.Y IMHO but I'm getting a little ahead of myself here. The answer is really, no, I wouldn't trade him.

I would prefer wilson earn a starting spot. Jax is a cold blooded killer on the court. Wilson strikes me as a role player. Wilson still is on the path to getting there but Jax is already there and is battle tested. Regardless of what anyone says Jax respects the game and plays cuz he loves it.

Trading for Jax would mean the Knicks are dead serious about the post season.

I would do Jax for Hughes....but Hughes contract is the main key to the 2010 free agency. ducking sucks bro.

Stephen Jackson isn't really that good. He shoots for crappy percentages and he's a headcase. Him in NY would be an Isiah type move. We don't need him. Keep him out of NY.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.
