I think Spreewell only if he could be controled. Not the Spree who complained about feeding his family.
John Starks mayby because he was an inspriation to the team.
Ewing should have retired a Knick.

If you are talking about impact on the team I think one that sticks out in my head is Camby and Nene Hillario for McDyess. That move still hurts the franchise.

Definitely regret the way things ended with Patrick - it's a shame we couldn't have him retire as a Knick. Also, we blew it as Knicks fans by not voting him into the All-star game (when he was injured) when the game was @ MSG. That was the ultimate tragedy.

Some people here will say Zach Randolph and Jamal Crawford.

In reality, it is Patrick Ewing.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

We got 2 draft picks in return for Ewing. We traded them for Erick Strickland and Othella Harrington.

Definetly the trade that got rid of Camby. But what really crippled us is all the crap we would get back after the Ewing and then the Glen Rice trades

Charlie Ward and McDyss. There were 2 first round picks in that deal, and that set in motion the whole Insta Win mentality trade for anything and anyone Isiah Thomas reign of terror.

i remember now mcD was crowned heir to ewing and he buckled under the pressure got injured. without that (needless) pressure he turned out (after ny) to be solid. as for ward, bah, he was the start of the nightmare of making good role players starters, and paying them as such. its all coming back to me now-- where's that bottle?

I'd go with the Patrick trade. In retrospect, the Camby deal might have been as bad or worse, but to me, that one was just bad luck. McDyess was a stud when we got him, and Camby was injury prone. Go figure that McD goes down and is never the same.

Dumping Patrick was bad in so many ways. And that's one many of us knew was a mistake from the start. We got one talented but highly overpaid player with a longer contract, Glenn Rice, and a real lot of crap: Travis Knight, Luc Longley? For Patrick? It was a travesty. This is a top 50 all-time player who was the heart of the team. We would have been so much better letting his contract run out and either re-signing him to a cheaper deal or letting him walk -- either way clearing cap space. I know he wanted a new, big deal, but I can't help feeling we could have handled that.

My point is though McD deal turned out terribly, it was just bad luck and not a stupid trade when it was made (in retrospect, sure, but I'm not blaming management for bad luck). He blew out his knee before he played a game for us. The guy we traded for was a career 18/9 player, super athletic. We never got that player.

We should have known from the beginning that Rice + Longley + Knight + a couple late 1st rnd picks and more filler does not equal Patrick.

dont even need retrospect with the pat trade it always looks bad. that was the beginning of ny getting hosed on trades. as for mcD he felt the pressure of being crowned a franchise player and to his credit tried to live up to that pressure and got injured in the process before he got a chance. if that pressure was just not put on him by prat sportswriters of ny. i think mcD just coming to ny to play his game would have been more than enough.

when u trade for a player who'd already had season ending knee surgery to repair a ruptured patellar tendon & missed another entire season of play the year after while giving up a player like Camby in his prime along w/a #7 lottery pick, then yes, it's a boneheaded & horrible trade anyway u wanna slice it... this is not hindsight GMing going on here, plenty of fans were against that trade the minute it was announced... i wanted to puke when i heard it was going down.

Ewing. What a travesty not bringing him back and eventually letting him become an assistant coach.

Ewing was the heart and soul of this team for it's best run since the 1970s. We should never have let him have such an ignominious departure. It would be one thing if we were able to trade him for a young star. Just letting him go, how lame.
