That is REALLY generous. We're giving him more than triple the QO. For that price, I hope he committed not only to waive his no trade clause but to contact GMs himself to try to facilitate trades and go to other teams' games to be a scout for us!

I agree. Glad it is over. Now get Nate signed and let's go to camp and see what we got.

He can be traded now, he couldn't have waived it under the QO I believe.
But he still doesn't have to resign with a team he is traded to but at least that starts to open up options. Also, since the economy is down and what not, he is probably more open than ever to get traded (of course getting paid too).

not quite right. Any one year deal like this still retains veto rights.

Nice. Hey he deserved it. They did right by Lee and Nate here. Lee and Nate should both feel respected, part of the team once again in a big way and ready to go. I don't see how we'll be able to keep these guys at the end of the season and it'll be tough to hear how they turned down trades that could've helped us around the deadline and how we lose them for nothing but I guess we'll just have to cross those bridges when we get to them. I've only been pushing for the organization to trade both because I don't want to lose these guys for nothing at all when the time comes. That's been my position all along - nothing personal against those guys. I like both guys in fact. Both are decent homegrown players and I'm glad they're back. This was the right thing - a win, win win situation for the team, the players and the fans. Now we can all start concentrating on training camp and on trying to win some games here. Maybe I'm getting a little too excited & carried away but I really don't think 40, 41 games is that insurmountable. We have Harrington for the whole year, Gallo's back in the mix and appears healthy, 2 rookies that should contribute if called upon, Nate & Lee back in the fold, some help to spell Duhon and keep him fresh, a little shot-blocking in the middle with Darko and Hill. I can't wait to get rolling..

I told you he would get paid. It's only fair for his production. If the Knicks intend to keep Lee long term--why do they want to make him mad? We'll see where it ends up--if he stays with the club or traded etc..

I hope he gets traded during the season or I will be very angry.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

good luck to lee in his quest this season to show he is worth a long-term 8mil a year deal (preferably with the knicks) if/if he really shows the upside you have mentioned.

This is a good deal, it's a good faith effort by Donnie to sign him to a contract that he deserves. Now let's see where this takes David after this upcoming year, hopefully it's here with a contract similar in money with more years, either that or hopefully he brings us a nice package of players in return.

Either way, its good to see David will be here atleast one more year.

More like, I told you there was no way the final outcome would be him sitting out for the season! The only debate was what would happen if the Knicks didn't make an offer bigger than the QO, and now we'll never know.

okay, i didn't read all of the replies, but the title of this thread is misleading...

the actual article title reads:
Knicks give Lee one-year, $7 million deal

I'm not sure some actually read the article:

The contract guarantees Lee $7 million, plus another $1 million bonus if a team-related incentive is met.

I don't see how this is generous...

to me this is pretty much fair market value.

this pretty much where most here had him pegged, value wise?

6-8 mil, i swear was what many had rated him here, and on the ex nytimes forum.

good job, donnie.

If one more person comes with that B*lls**t line, "They're respected", I'm gonna SCREAM. 32 wins doesn't allow for chest thumping. It means you were the 13th worst team in the league. How about being appreciative for someone having faith in your low preforming asses, and show the requesite maturity and toughness necessary to bring this team around.

What's interesting is both players [Robinson & Lee] were given incentive bonuses for if the team made the playoffs

so, of those who are not pleased with the deal, with the idea that Lee gets $8 mil, how many of you think we are actually gonna make the playoffs this year?

If there's only one house for sale in a 1500 mile radius (the equivalent of there being only one team Lee can play for) and the asking price for the house is $2.6 mil, is the buyer being generous if he's willing to pay you $8 mil? Are you aware of any stories where a buyer offered the seller triple his asking price?

bonn, man, he's not a house, he's a person, and a player who we may want to keep.

low-balling him entirely because we believe no one else is going to pay him that is not good for the organization's reputation with players, or ability to re-sign him next year if we want, amongst other related reasons.

if he took the qualifying offer, he'd be a restricted free-agent who might be pissed at the knicks. we need him to be somewhat happy to play hard and help us win some games, and maybe come back in 2010.

giving him a contract that is fair for his value is not a bad thing to do, because at least it allows for the team to move him if possible.
