Posted by DaJoka: Don't forget now, say we pulled this trade off, now we'd have to come up with that buyout money, something David Kahn apparently wasn't able to do. Originally close to $8 million dollars, Rubio's former team, DKV Joventut, has now agreed to trade his rights to FC Barcelona and accept a lower buyout total of $5.8 million dollars. That's still a lot of money but doable for FC Barcelona as there doesn't seem to be any rules in place to prohibit such a transaction in that league. Well, that Europe. The NBA is a different ball game - the NBA only allows teams to spend $500,000 towards a player's buyout, then the player has to come up with the rest on his own somehow. It's all spelled out nicely in this ESPN article, including some creative ways Minnesota was trying to come up with the buyout money. My question is, if Minny couldn't do it, how could we? We'd have to structure something similar to what Kahn was gunning for, something involving revenue/endorsement givebacks.
