The emotions are over and now it's all business.
We do not need players playing for up based on emotions but rather based on business objectives.
And this is a good thing.
David is in the position when he must continue to work hard on his game next season. And this is good thing for him too.

Wait- so the 4 year 32MM is off the table? And if so, is it because Lee & his agent have dictated that they won't accept that?

I don't see how that really is Lee seeing his situation clearly? I mean, did he see the offer Millsap got?

Lee and his agent are still delusional, but they now see they won't be overpaid this year by us. As such, I really don't see the advantage of giving him more than the QO in a 1 year deal as we are likely to lose him anyway for nothing either way.

why not give him a good salary this year? it doesn't matter to our cap and it builds goodwill for potential moves the following year.

QO means no S&T will be possible.
This limits our flexibility just and to satisfy fans who want Lee STFU.
Walsh will not entertain those fans. He rathe wants those fans STFU.

The good news is that Lee understands what's going on, so hopefully there won't be any more tear jerking statements to the press by his agent.

It was never really that complicated. Lee and his agent just didn't want to understand the situation earlier.

I think it will keep this wide open.
If we will not get anything better, we will keep him. If we will have better options, he will go somewhere else.

First of all, it was reported earlier this week that the 4 year offer was never made.

Second, yes, this probably means Lee's days as a Knick are numbered since the main options are sign-n-trading him or just signing him to a one year, which would mean we have to renounce to his rights to get the cap relief we need for next oddseason.

The best possible scenario is to find a solid sign-n-trade and get expirings and prospects/picks for him, IMO.

Lee game has improved every year and it will this year. The only risk the Knicks have is losing a good player for nothing and if they dont do a sign and trade.

It became obvious that Walsh is planning to get first big name using trade before FA season of 2010.
Lee story is another step in preparation for this.
When it will became obvious that some of the 2010 pull FAs are forcing trade to NY Walsh should be ready to have all kind of options open.
So far very good job on this front.

Lee does hold veto right but the team also holds Bird Free Agent rights, ie. if he wants a REALLY big contract next year, the team to do it through is the Knicks.

It depends on the contract. He won't hold any veto rights if they put a team option on year 2 of a contract.

But with the cap hold of his one-year deal, wouldn't it leave little cap space to sign a free agent to a max deal? Wouldn't they have to renounce to his rights to have enough to offer the star players?

right, but David would first have to sign that type of contract, which is iffy at best.

16 teams will have money next year why couldnt he get big money with someone else? I dont any player would sign a one year deal with a team option if they could be unrestricted the next year
