Switching Sides Made Easy

It’s just a marketing ploy, but it seems so…disloyal. To get fans to buy 10-game packages, the Nets are offering five reversible NBA jerseys–one side is a Nets jersey, the other a team they’ll be playing in those games. Devin Harris turns into Dwyane Wade, Courtney Lee into Kobe Bryant, Brook Lopez into Dwight Howard, etc. It’s as if the Nets are saying: if our team is embarrassing you, just switch…sides!

Honestly, could there be a worse marketing-ploy? Make your fans root for another team?

Really? Isiah had been trying for years to get our fans to look elsewhere!

some teams need to be contracted. the nets are one of them. or move to a better location.

but give them a break. they are in no man's land in jersey where they couldn't even sell out final's games. they have to do anything they can to get people in the building. they have a very small fanbase. it's all about money.

not every franchise can be the knicks and in the heart of new york city.

I'm still waiting for a shovel to touch dirt in Brooklyn. Now they're saying this fall. We'll see.

moving to brooklyn can only be a good thing for ny basketball fans. it creates a competetive environment in the same marketplace. nets will be the younger brother but it would put the knicks on notice to up their game. (think wwf vs. wcw)

Interesting comparison considering the WWF ended up buying WCW out.

Absolute garbage.. it's been pathetic. I like the "new and brash" WCW vs "old and crap" WWF comparison though. That's when the Attitude era started... good times.

"Terrible" is too strong to describe the Nets. Don't you think that word is a little more fitting to the Knicks ?

No competition, no Rock, no Stone Cold, no replacement for either (sorry, John Cena).

As far as the Swamprats go - moving to Brooklyn can do nothing but help. Will they convert some bitter casual Knick fans? Certainly. But that Barclays Center has to get built and they've been trying to break ground for like the last 3-4 years now.

Right. They should just merge the teams. They can call the team the Knickets.

Actually I think they are the exact opposite. The Knicks are a terrible organization. We haven't been relevant for almost 8 years now haven't had in All-Star in ages and are never televised and we are in the biggest market in the country.

Rod Thorn is one of the best GMs in the league and has rebuilt that team twice while we have sat here and brought in chumps that don't care about playing hard. They are a victim of there surroundings. There core consists of an All-Star point guard and one of the better young bigs in the league, we have ????. You could make the case that Courtney Lee is a better player than our second best player as well.

Until we make the playoffs which again won't be this year and frankly without Lebron might not be for another season we are the joke franchise of the league with Memphis and the Clippers (who are light years ahead of us know with Gordon, Griffin and cap space).

The Knicks wouldn't even have a fan base if they weren't in NYC. It's sad, but true, the Knicks have a much longer way to go then the nets do.

Yeah ok.. so you're the one who should be fired for this brilliant marketing move. Atleast we know who it is now.

Quite honestly I'm in marketing, I've seen a corny campaign or two but this one is just stupid. Let's go ahead and give the fans an opportunity to jump ship. Maybe if they had a red slash going through the opposing team's side it would work.

i went to dinner with the guy running this project last week, and he said that its still not definite they will even break ground. the true meaning behind 'this fall' is that there are some more hearings/mtg's scheduled from now through October that ay bring closure to some of the outstanding issues. but, he also said that if these issues arent resolved by October timeframe, then they are better served scrapping the project. they have wasted more money waiting than on actual planning for the site.

I wouldn't do it but they are desperate to get anyone into their building and very little seems to work. They didn't even sell out when they were going to the finals.

They are in the business this season to get people into the building. Much like going to the knick games for the avearege fan isn't about the knicks it's who is playing against them the nets are in a tough bind.

"Dream Week" - Essentially was come watch the knicks get their asses handed to them while they check their pride and let everyone in the league drop 50 on them.

Again, I wouldn't do it, but what do you suggest the team do? They are going to be one of the worst teams in the league, people don't go to the games when they are good

So if (when?) it falls through, then what? The team is sold and they go to Newark with the Devils, perhaps?

It's obvious they can't afford to stay in the swamp.

Why don't they move to the Prudential Center?
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

That is kind of messed up. I like pretty much everything Thorn has done and I think he gets it. I think Kiki is was a nice addition to their front office also.
