No way. He messed up Toronto in his last HC gig. I want Doc if its a possibility but someone who commands respect. None of these players are listening to Don or any of his assistants.

He played the vets and Thomas canned him for not playing the kids back in 96

He is a defensive minded coach

How about Doug Collins? He's in the booth at MSG anyway. Bring him down to the court and let him coach. John Starks can be an assistant. If Doug doesn't want to stay with that after the season we can use Starks as head coach.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

Oh yea you are right! I really shouldn't say anything then. I haven't seen him coach that much but I do know he is a good defensive coach.

he can't be worse than Chaney!

i dont know if starks is ready for that yet. Maybe after years as an assistant like Byron. I'm really not a fan of Doug Collins either. I would try to hire someone from the outside. The problem is who is gonna wanna come here. Doc would be perfect and he may come because he's a knick at heart.

what about paul westphal? i thought he had a bum rap coaching after george karl. he should be better than chaney. we can also ask george karl, which is a little more risky but he is probably the most strict of the other options. i like lenny wilkins but he is more like a player's coach. we need someone to go into practice and ring necks. but he is a great strategist who gets the most out of marginal talent if they but in ( which carter did not). this does not make sense. there were three coach firing in the sports world yesterday and chaney was not one of them for his "stellar" job. frigging first time we head to the west coast trip and did not win ONE,ONE lousy game since 1985? but chaney goes to formals, golf charities and is seen kissing dolan's frigging butt. what an uncle tom. yeah, i said it. chaney is a frigging uncle tom. i have never been so angry the past frigging week. just think, last week i was so excited for dice being back and now the knicks are turning into soft pansies who let a punk like matt harping lay the wood on them. i am sorry i am ranting like this. i do not know if all of you are feeling the way i am feeling.

I feel the same way Jazz. I'm beyond angry. Its not just about the knicks losing and losing bad, its that our coach Chaney is not even making arrangements for next year! He should be playing rookies teaching them and developing them not playing scrubs like Clarence and Shandon.

What pisses me off even more is that we are starting to believe in scrubs like Shandon more than we believe in Houston, KVH and Dice who are proven scorers. It's all managements fault and the only way we get out of this mess is if someone buys the knicks off Dolan.

Starks, besides being a passionate player whom lost his cool often, and made mistakes with (his bad by the way) management, what makes him qualified to be head coach of the NBA? He has not assisted anywhere, and only coached a summer team for a few weeks?

Collins, the guy is making 4 million NOT coaching the Wiz.

Maybe his kid.

We should let one of the assstants have run for the rest of the year. Pull a miracle, then give him the job, if not, perhaps Doc is ready to leave the booth.

I'd rather see Ewing over Starks.

Oakley would be most effective. He can bitchslap his players whom mess up. Then take them in the shower.

He'd show whose team it is!

Isiah Thomas is a coach who will play the rookies !!!
What does DICK CHANEY & DON CHANEY have in common ?? They both accidentally fell into a job they don't deserve & really suck at doing it !!!! Both need to be fired !!!

Isiah sucks.

NY needs to go out and get a proven winner and make him GM/coach again. The players will then know he is the man they need to impress.

No karl either. I like Doc, I like the idea of MarkJax but prefer a proven track record. Too bad Jerry Sloan is not available.

Doc got all the roster changes he wanted. He wanted T-mac to be the leader and got rid of Armstrong. Huge mistake!

But good coaches learn and grow. It was his first gig.

I am very impressed with the job Carlisle is doing with out Brad MIller. I am very impressed with Artest this season.

Yes, but he will confuse the heck out of his players with Oak speak.

I don't think we should bring in a brand new coach in the middle of the season. We are probably better offer promoting Brendan Malone to head coach and bring in Starks as an assistant. If this season is doomed we might as well be doomed with Chaney's staff than with a new coach that we hope to have for a number of years. By the way Doug Collins has not impressed anyone with his coaching, so No I would not want him as coach. If the Knicks would make some trades they may be able to do something with Malone as coach. But if history is any indication then they will continue their run as the worst franchise in professional sports.
