The Hawks are working on an extension for Joe Johnson, who could become a free agent next summer.

"FA summer of 2010? Maybe not for ol' Joe. Sources: Hawks and JJ's camp talking extension this week in Cali," Sekou Smith of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution wrote on his Twitter page.

Johnson averaged 21.4 points, 5.8 assists and 4.4 rebounds for the Hawks last season.

=============
I mention this because, of course, he is a secondary target for us if we don't score a top tier FA.

It looks like Atlanta is real happy with what they have and are locking it all up for long term stability. It must be nice to feel like you're at that point in time.

Roy is also working on an extension
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

i see it as parralel to what folks with real jobs are thinking right now - ie: since the economy is up in the air right now, most people with jobs tend to stay there, even if a bit unhappy, until they see things turn around in the market and then they go looking for more lucrative positions.

maybe johnson signs a short term deal at a fair price now, with a player option then starts looking again in a year or two? i know he's gonna be getting up in age in a few years, so he may only have one good longterm contract after this. maybe that's what he's banking on? who really knows....as nino brown from new jack city said - money talks and bull**** runs the marathon....

If Bosh was out there begging to come to NY for the Max would you guys give it to him?

That leaves LeBron and Wade... oy

As far as the RFA's, that leaves Rudy Gay and Aldridge

That's five guys who deserve Max or close to Max dollars.

How many teams are out there with space? More than five, I can tell you that.

it would be the biggest free agent signing in sports history. this move would rank 2nd only to the drafting of bargnani.

Sessions is a good step to getting LeBron here. Now you've got Sessions, Chandler and Gallo and you can hope that one of the three takes off and makes us look promising.

If we can sneak into the playoffs I think LeBron could come. If we win 20 something games I'd have a hard time seeing it.

how big was the big game signing? after that move, everybody forgot about isiah's hof playing career and put him on the map as an executive...

I feel you... and you're probably right... my issue is I can't see anyone leaving. Unless Gallo or Hill becomes a monster a max UFA probably gets the Knicks to the second round in a good year, and there current teams can offer more money. I just can't see someone leavin a crappy situation except for more money or for a better team... none of which the Knicks are going to be able to offer

if lebron comes to ny, it will have nothing to do with how many games the team wins next season.

Scott Skiles can't stand Sessions... and there was a higher comfort level with BRANDON JENNINGS than Sessions? I don't understand this love affair with the dude other than his empty stats and that he's a solid fantasy basketball option

Johnson is a very good 3pt shooter but I was surprised to see he only shoots 41% on 2pt-jumpers. Sessions at 39%.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Damn. Honestly, we had a far better chance of getting Joe Johnson than Lebron. We need two very good players in FA nexxt year if we are going to really turn this team into a contender. I was hoping at a minimum we could add Joe Johnson and Amare to a core of Sessions, Chandler, Gallo, and Darko, with Hill and Douglas on the bench.
