of course people are goign to try and find ways to cope with disappointments !! What is wrong with "being afraid of losing" or "talking tuff to cover up the softness?"
ALl those listed are defense mechanisms. They are very standard and I have absolutely no problem with that. What do u suggest the right way for a fan to behave is?
Far more reasonable response than I would have imagined.
I guess you can run and hide like Playa, Or gloat.
One could SCREEM!
I cope by tune them out. They start to lose, I shut it off and read a book. Perhaps they come back and I miss it. The more they lose, the less interested I become. Im not abandoning them, I just see it as bad entertainment and really don't want to invest in losing. I really have no interest in seeing this team live, nor spend the time and money to do so. I am involved in youth sports and find great satisfaction in volunteerism ourside of my family and my business life.
Pro sports loses its soul every year. I am disgusted with the mets, and the yankees now. The red sox are losing their soul also with Yankee like moves. Free agent teams are boring and not real.
I am excited with Layden's move to accumulate youthful talent and wish he plays them soon. Keeping draft picks, Vujanic could yield some exciting times ahead. Drafteing a young core is very high on my book. KVH is so bashed I root for his comeback and growth. I like watching Doleac get better and build a career from hard work. He is not gifted like others and has to really work on fundamentals to stay in the league. It is not easy to stay in the NBA unless you have a great contract. Guys like FatSpoon would not even be here, let alone making 5 mil a year!
I hate we are the most ineffecient team in sports. I am encouraged by some signs that will change in time. We are not making the same mistakes that created this mess. We might not be playing rookies, but at least we have some now. And they might have potential.
Frank I think is very flawed, very awkward shot but can slash and drive. He looks good because the other two don't! I am not sure of his upside. Vujanic should be well scouted and I have great hope his game will translate well into the NBA.
Sweet needs more work, and Lampe has a great personality who could be a joy to watch grow.
Give me a core of rookies, watch them grow, then I can become emotionally attached. Kind of like Pettit-Jeter-Maranio-posada-bernie core. I watched those guys in the minors! Jeter in single A ball in Greensboro, NC broke the South Atlantic League record for errors in a season! Potential was there obviously! That stuff is cool.
Frustration with team dates back to the late 1970's with bringing in guys that are to be instant superstars. Its entertaining at times and it fills the garden, but just does not hook me in.
I am patient and still think this team can make some noise. I fear we panic and make a dumb trade.
Laydog is his own man, and I hope he stays that way while building a program we can be proud of one day.
