I say we give him the full mid-level for 5 years with a players option after 3 years. It doesn't look like any other team is serious about an offer for him including the Lakers. We may have to think about building a team around very good players and young player, instead off two Max super stars.

Lamar will be 30 in Nov. Why would he come to the Knicks? And why would Walsh deviate from his 2010 plan for a guy like Lamar?

Because Lamar can be a piece of the puzzle, and Lamar would come for the money. Are the Laker really going to go all out for a bench player now with Artest there? We have to start looking to alter the 2010 thing alittle bit.

If all it took was the MLE, yes. That's not gonna have much of an impact on 2010 because it's around $6 mil and we can create more cap space. Odom would help the team be more respectable and have a better chance of getting FAs. I'd still prefer Andre Miller though.

Odom is seeking around $10 million a year. Why would he take the MLE from the Knicks if the Lakers could offer him that now but are trying to get him to agreed to around $7 million? You can't offer option years on top of a 5 year contract that isn't your free agent.

Odom fits the same way Grant Hill fits....btw mid-level money is a steal for Odom. I dunno if he'd take that.

Keep in mind teams are using the economy as a excuse for not paying guys...so the Lakers are playing those games with Odom. Odom is an upgrade over Lee...

We all know Odom has skills and he helps you win games....offer the dude a contract but the Knicks still need a point guard.....

Here's a thought....sign a dude like Odom, who the Laker teamates love, and trade for a point guard....save enough dough for one free agent next year and kaboom!!! We are back bitch!!!

Odom?

Lakers would be stupid to not retain him (much how I feel Orlando should have retained Hedo).

For us? These types of players will not help us and will not help our 2010 plan. Of which, again, is NOT limited to just landing LeBron or Wade. The theme is develop young talent, acquire assets that other teams actually want, and try to use it all to build a new team off the torn down ashes of the old team. We're still early in this process.

I just do NOT understand what fans are missing here. Just don't understand it.... wanting to trade in a potential 5-8 year contending team of the future 2010-2020 decade.... for a 2009 "maybe we make it" playoff team? Jeez...

I don't think an offer like that would generate more than a polite 'no thanks' from his agent. It would be a great deal for the Knicks. Odom is a player.

What???

Ok if that's the mentality then we don't need to make any trades....lets hope Gallo can contribute like 15/9/3 and a steal and block as the starting 4....

Also lets hope Chandler can be a legit 20pt scorer at the 2 guard.....

Also lets hope either darko or curry forfills their potential....

Lets pray!!!

Yea that is the mentality now. Right now all significant free agents just use the Knicks like one night stands then go back to their wife. We gotta grow our own garden, make it Harry Potter-ish awesome and start winning. Then they will come in 2010 hopefully for keeps.

We sign Odom to his 10M plus, resign Lee to his 12M plus. What do we have, Eny? Yeah, a team locked in through 2014+ that is going to continue to "threaten the 8th seed" in the Eastern Conference.

Is this your personal goal as a fan? Win as much as possible regardless of outcome?

I'd like to think you're a better fan than that. Look beyond the 2010 LeBron or Bust campaign. Look beyond the "Should have kept Crawford and Zach and recycled our expirings!" campaign of ABSOLUTE DOOM (4.75 years of evidence it wasn't and never would work).

Step into the light! 2010 is all about FLEXIBILITY and RESPONSIBLE spending. 2009...as 2008 was... is a wash year where we're just still purging ourselves of the mistakes of the previous management. Nothing more nothing less.

Don't quite see the need for the uproar that has transpired on this forum in the form of six or more threads today. I just don't get that line of thinking.

Do we want a 2009 roster that *MIGHT* make the playoffs? Or do we want a 2010-2015 team looking to be an EC powerhouse?

It seems, with a lot of posters, the prior is quite more attractive than the latter - and those who feel that way feel that the latter is IMPOSSIBLE.

Well, take your low expectations ball and go home, I say.

Cosmic....

I'm done with David Lee...I don't wanna resign him at all.

My thing is getting better as a team. Odom is a damn good player. Ball mover, ball handler, scorer, rebounder, defender....he is just a damn good player. He could be the Knicks starting power fwd...sign and trade? or for the mid-level. Not sure what the Lakers or even Odom wants to do but its just a suggestion made by the lead poster of this thread.

Andre Miller, Sessions, Raymond Felton....all are upgrades to the point guard position currently accupied by a dude with no creativity, deception, or court vision to his game....in the very least Miller, Sessions, and Felton all bring those missing factors.

Thats all I'm saying....The Knicks are already set to bring in on free agent for 2010. They can Sign Odom and one of the point guards and then manuver other contracts to keep that cap space open for next off season.

the talent level of the knicks would be already legit with odom, say miller, wilson, gallo, harrington, Darko, Jordan Hill, Toney, Hughes....thats some serious talent...add a big time free agent to this...doesn't look like its gonna be Lebron, Wade, or Bosh...could be Amare...or Joe Johnson...alot of things can happen.

A D'antoni lead quad of the names I mentioned could very well make the playoffs next season....that should be the key. Smart spending. Not throwing away 12 mil per at David Lee...Odom at 6-10 mil per is good money well spent. Andre miller at 6-10 mill is also good money spent...The Knicks are very close to seriously competing and yes i believe they could if they do this.

Odom would be a very good pick up. He won't be here in 2020, but who the hell fills every position on there team for the next 10 years??? A guy like Odom or MIller are players would are good value and worst case they would help a lot of the players on this team.

If we could sign him for Lee money, I would it. Gallo is a much better player if you hav a guy who is bigger, faster, rebounds and plays D........ Odom to play inside the 3point line on both ends.

Odom is nice, inconsistant.. but nice.
That said, please remind me... Why should he be a free agent target for NYK again?

We are absolutely stacked in the front court. We have 3 forwards with promise, (Chandler, Gallinari and now Hill) Still potentially have David Lee in the fold, and a scoring threat from that position in Al Harrington.. Where would Lamar Odom fit?

He's also not the type of player that will be a draw for the 2010 free agent class in my opinion. I'd pass on him!

If you rearrange the letters in Odom's name, it spells doom.

Odom couldn't even play well when he was up for contract and we all know that was his inspiration in the past. I'd definitely pass on him.

OH Dumb is not much better than Harrington.

He is a good player for the right situation.

That chemistry thing again. look who he plays with? That makes him look good.

The guy would be a bone head here. We need differnt type of player.

This is a case of not adjusting stats due to playing time. His production per minute was about the same as in previous years.
