According to an executive whose team is interested in David Lee, Lee's agent Mark Bartelstein is seeking $12 million per season for his client.

The Knicks have yet to make a formal offer but hope to re-sign the forward to a deal averaging between $7 million and $8 million per season.

"So many people are throwing so much stuff out there, it's not something I would ever talk about publicly," Bartelstein said about negotiations.

Howard Beck of the New York Times described Bartelstein as frustrated that his client was still in limbo.

"It's a shame David's not done yet. The Knicks have the ability to get him signed. The other teams don't, because they don’t know if the Knicks will match or not, or go through a sign-and-trade," Bartelstein said.

The Knicks may not be interested in being part of a sign-and-trade deal for Lee unless they receive a significant talent back.

His agent is getting desperate. He is sort of like the bully yelling ever louder when you make a good point. His arguments are not getting any better and it seems like the pool is shrinking. I guess we'll see today or tomorrow (which day can S&T's begin?)

I think our 8X4 offer looks ok. With the cap shrinking we will be cutting off our nose to spite our face if we give him much more. Next few days will be interesting, we are for sure going to find out about what Donnie meant the other day with leverage or something like that...

$12M is a little ridiculous when it seems David hasn't even heard rumors about teams offering that kind of money, but this is how you negotiate. Start high and hope to reach a middle ground.

If I'm Walsh, I hold firm at $8M while continuing to look into a S&T.

The cap is going down next year. I don't want Lee back here for more than $6 million. Trade him and Curry and clear all the cap space. Lee isn't work destroying cap space for.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

I think with another year on the deal and a player option towards the end, this might be the best deal david can hope for.

I don't see how he can take the qo and chance having a smaller cap next year and having to compete with better talent. I mean, if you can't beat out Lamar Odom, how do you stand a chance against Lebron, Wade and all the rest?

I said in another thread yesterday that Mark Bartlestein should be fired by David Lee. The guy has seriously overvalued his client and it's killed the market for him. This is good for the Knicks though.

No way ANYONE gives him that. He's worth starting 7M and ending 11M and even then whoever gives it to him is going to be frustrated with him when he's making 10 and 11 and not playing any defense and being a whole lot slower footed out there!

I'm really growing tired of this guy and his agent. GTFO

By the time David Lee's agent is done with him not only will Lee probably not remain a Knick, but he might be such a bad state that his azz might have to shine shoes at Grand Central Station. Not to mention the fan favorite might turn to the fans most hated if Lee's agent keeps this up.

David Lee is fan favourite... Hmmm... I don't think so.
12 mils... Haha... nice call.
I think Lee will take 7 in NYC and will turn down 10 elsehere in the farm lands. He can compensate more that this on jerseys in NYC not talking about selling closing brands.
I you think this is only about bbal... you are delusional.

Mark Bartelstein doesn't have a hugely impressive resume of clients- when all is said and done David Lee might be his biggest or 2nd biggest client in terms of salary...so he's not gonna waste this opportunity,

Why the exaustion over this guy and his agent? The agent is trying to get a market built and the ball is not bouncing the knicks way.

Problem is in 10 days it would take the knicks to respond the offering team is in limbo and misses milsap, or others they may want.

ONly way the knicks don't match is for a team to overpay. A team can steal him but has to overpay. Otherwise have to negotiate a sign and trade.

Walsh is bing patient and understands the market. He will bring him back at a good price or let him walk.

I like the way we are handling this. I think his agent has a plan and Dlee is not blind. It works or it does not. They have options to resign with knicks, play for the QO, work a sign and trade, or take less from another team and risk tying up the other team if the knicks match.

Why be all done with it? We are kind of in the drivers seat for a change!

i agree. i think walsh is being brilliant by not doing anything. why not sit back and see what other offers arise? if his agent wants $12M and he's only seeing offers in the $6-7M range, that tells you something....teams are not willing to overpay this year for talent...especially marginal, one dimensional talent. so let lee's agent whore him out and realize his player aint worth all that, then the knicks can come in on the cheap to resign him. at the end of the day, donnie is in the drivers seat here and lee is the perverbial feather blowing in the wind. let him blow for a while.
