we better win more than 30-33 games next year. And guys like Gallinari [who has to show he is healthy and can do more than shoot 3's] and Chandler[who needs to show much more consistency] + our rookies have to be impact rookies--they are older and should play right away. Whatever the formula--winning takes center stage this year--they have to win and the young guys have to show the goods to get older FAs that they can come in here and not have to carry a bunch of scrubs and inconsistent players.

if we are to have any shot in 2010 of getting Lebron, then I agree 100% we better have the look and feel of a winning squad. No blow outs, decent defense, and improvement from some of the guys that will be here in 2010 and beyond.

You don't have to read between the lines to understand that no free agent is coming to a losing team without hope.

We need a 39+ win season with a few players showing signs of being certified NBA starters.

Otherwise no one will come here.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Or perhaps a team which really seems to be coming together at the end of the season and does not falter like last year's team.

Wade flat out said "become a contender or I'm gone" to the Heat through the press. It's on the UK front page and there's a thread about it too.

I'd say LeBron would be in the same camp, but they have Shaq now.

It's not really rocket science, as I've been saying all along. These guys want big paychecks AND a chance to win a championship, and one or even two superstars, as it's been proven over and over again, doesn't always mean you'll win one.

I still say we have no shot in hell at getting Wade or LeBron, and Chris Bosh scares me a little bit. Are best shots are towards Amare and Joe Johnson.

I have mixed feelings toward both Amare and Bosh although I would not complain if we got either. I'm probably in the minority here because no one ever even talks about him in 2010 but I'd rather have Dirk on a 4 year contract than Amare or Bosh. I think he's the best all around player of the three. I know he's older but he doesn't have the knee issues or attitude baggage that Amare has and he can carry a team further than Bosh can. I'm sure he'd fit well in the style of play D'antoni wants too.

OH NO!! The Dirk and Nash farewell tour soon to come to NYC!! Just point me to the Manhattan Bridge as i won't be needing my garden seats anymore. Seriously though, Dirk is a great scorer and to me would be a better pick than Amare and Bosh as long as we could get another stud along with him. Just in case someone is thinking about it.. I'm not talking about Steve Nash as the second player.

Take those big name FAs off their respective teams and what do you get? A 30 win team.

You add LeBron or Wade to this team and we go from 30 wins to 45+ just like that.

So that's meaningless to me.

guys used to kill me for saying that Chaney was a good coach and did a good job with that team. Our frontcourt rotation was Kurt/Othella/Doleac and Spoon, Houston/Sprewell/Shandon were our wings and Eisley and Ward our PGs. Yet we were in every game, let the league in 3's 3% fewest TOs and played hard every night.

When McKnee went down in the preseason I was actually proud of how hard that team fought each night to stay in games.

The way Isiah treated Don and his Wife that night should have been a real tip off to us of the horror to come. When it happened, I must admit, and know I'm not alone, I thought it was funny and felt we had a man who was going to kick asses and get things rolling again. I couldn't have been more wrong and looking back it was absolutely disgraceful how Isiah let him come to the garden to prepare for the game and had he and his wife tossed out on 7th avenue on that 7 degree snowy night. Just as tasteless as you can get.

I remember those days. I think there were maybe 3 people total that thought he was a solid coach. I thought he did an amazing job with the roster that was handed to him.

He did an amazing job that one season and deserved a contract extension. The season after that, when we had KVH and Mutombo and an Allan Houston fresh off microfracture, I didn't think he did as well, but he didn't have much to work with. KVH was being a pansy for the first two months of the season, Houston was injured and KT was acting like a moron for most of that season, if anyone remembers. McDyess came back, but he wasn't a shell of his old self.

He didn't have much to work with and he didn't deserve one bit of the treatment he got from Isiah and the fans. Layden was a crap GM, but he gave Chaney the exact support that he deserved.

Are we forgetting about Boston in this thread? Although they did have Pierce.
