Marbury Not Returning?: According to reports from Marc J. Spears of the Boston Globe free agent guard Stephon Marbury will not be returning to the Celtics after receiving a one-year $1.3 million NBA minimum offer from the team. Marbury was hopeful and optimistic that he'd get a bigger-longer term offer however that did not come. Marbury in an e-mail to the Globe thanked the Celtics and the fans for their support last season.

"Thank you Boston for allowing the world to see me play again after all that went on in N.Y.," said Marbury. "The fans treated me with open arms and that's all anyone can ask for."

Marbury is said to be seeking a new deal elsewhere and has drawn some interest from other teams, although it's unclear if he'll get offers worth much more than the deal he turned down in Boston.

Not so fast:

Marbury, who still doesn't have an agent, hopes to re-sign with Boston, though he's talked to his former coach, Washington's Flip Saunders. Marbury also did not rule out Europe.

"They get first dibs,'' Marbury said of the Celtics. "They did something for me, showed the NBA they won a championship and still brought someone in who was supposed to destructive to the locker room.''

After his Knick buyout negotiations that dragged nearly four months, Marbury joined Boston in late February and never once got on the court together with his former mate, Kevin Garnett, who missed the playoffs. The Celtics were eliminated in seven games by Orlando in the second round.

"With Kevin coming back, the chances are the same,'' Marbury said. "If Kevin would've been there, the outcome would've been different. Not taking anything away from the Lakers. They're a great team as well.''

The Celtics coaches loved Marbury's work on defense but never played free on offense. Marbury said his rust was too much to overcome physically and he never could find his swagger.

"Mentally, what I had to deal with, the process with D'Antoni, the president (Donnie Walsh), it was mindboggling,'' Marbury said. "Two people can't make a decision and they have to go above them to Mr. Dolan.

Mentally I was damaged and didn't even realize it.

"Going back next year, I'll be free. When you're weathering the storm, you're not thinking how bad the storm is. You're just holding on, trying to get through the finish.''

That's a few days old. Marbury turned down the Celtics offer and said it looks like he's not going back there.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

I messed that up. I just thought it was kind of ironic that Berman just put that out and then two days later the Celts only offer him the vet minimum.

What teams could possibly looking to sign him? And why would he want to sign with any of these teams, as his best bet to win a title is probably with Boston, since I can't see the Lakers or Magic or Cavs signing him

Aren't the Knicks looking for an experienced point guard?

Does he really want a multi-year deal worth more than what Boston offered? This guy is insane. He averaged like 0.6 points, 0.8 assists and 4.5 turnovers with the Celtics last season...ors omething very close to that.

i love the fact that Marbury's thanking Boston for giving him a veteran's minimum contract for half a season while dissing the Knicks' franchise for paying him max dollars for 4 and a half years for being an a-hole.

I also want to thank the Celtics for allowing me to see Marbs play again. It truly was a joy to watch and I frown on the Knicks for taking that away from me.

Poor business decision on Marbury's part. He let pride get in the way of a smart decision. He should have played when he had the chance for the Knicks to get himself in shape. Then he should have accepted the buyout immediately(even if the terms weren't exactly what he wanted) in order to continue playing. By doing so he would have ensured a larger payday this coming season. Instead he got his buyout closer to the terms he wanted, sat out the entire year and now will not receive close to what he wanted. So in the end, by not accepting the original buyout, he lost millions. Short sited approach due to pride, unless...........He goes to Europe. There he may command a larger salary.

I don't want to ever hear Marbury say again that he just wants to win a championship. He's made his money in the league and now the only thing he should be focused on is helping a team win a ring. What an *******.

marbury will never win a championship! staying with the celtics would have been a move for the championship, he made a move for the money even after bleeding the knicks dry

It might appear that he thinks he won a championship with the Celtics. Im not sure.

While the Vets minimum might play a part, he might have not been assured minutes and could just be a back up incase someone gets hurt.

PrideBury wants assurances instead of competing and winning minutes.

He won't even pay an agent.

Or, Perhaps he can't get an agent to work for him?

I'd like to see him play for some team in Russia and try to get his paycheck while "Boris" and his boys all laugh at him.

Its gonna end sad for him. Funny, but sad.

With the paydays about done, Mrs. Marbury is going to pick up her half and move on soon enough.

Juanna Mann sequal is getting its muse. "Stephanie Marbury" in the WNBA!

I guess I shouldn't be surprised to see you all hating on Marbury after all that he has done for this franchise. He gave the best years of his life to the Knicks. He even wants his ashes scattered over Madison Square Garden. Together with Isiah Thomas, he brought this franchise back from the brink. I still believe the Knicks were a year away from a Championship team when Donnie Walsh & Mike D'Antoni vindictively benched Marbs. But that's all right. Zeke & Marbs will always be champions to me. They provided some of the best entertainment we've seen at the Garden for quite some time. They are winners in life, and that's what really matters.

Marbury provided some of the best comic relief to this franchise.

"Stars on Stars"!, the Beck interview, "We youthier, they scarred!!", the Movement and his testamony at AnuchaGate were all great material. The "Scowel Towel" look, "dropping 10 and assists and 10 dimes", Escape Goat, Etc etc are all the great lore of his knick experience.

This guy was a great knick, just not a great knick player!
