Wow. So Lee might actually get some serious offers. Not a good look for the Knicks.

So the big PF's are Milsap, Lee, and Villanueva.

Good, he'll get some good looks and the Knicks can work out a sign and trade if they so choose.

Memphis, OKC, and Detroit are targeting a PF. All those teams are below the cap. Why sign and trade and give up value when you can sign the player outright.

Remember the GM's of those teams are Wallace, Presti, and Dumars. I doubt any of them are going to get fleeced in a sign and trade. Plus why would they want to offer these guys 6 year deals? The only benefit to the sign and trade is the extra year.

The benefit to the sign and trade is that the team gets their guy. Knicks can match any deal and if they don't like the dollar amount that is being discussed, Walsh will offer a sign and trade. If the team doesn't want Lee that badly then the Knicks won't match and the Knicks will sign Lee for the lowest possible contract they can.

I think either a sign and trade or the Knicks getting Lee for 7 mill a year is pretty likely.

I understand where you are coming from but this is why teams usually have to overpay or front load the deal to dissuade the player's current teams from matching.

A deal starting at 7 million is not alot but the 5th and 4th years would be 9.4 and 8.8 million respectively. A front loaded deal would have the contract going from the 5th yr to 1st yr salary. Those aren't 2010 cap friendly numbers.

To comment on Carlos Boozer...he's smart for not opting out with next year being the D-day or Stella got her groove back day for a lot of teams.

Yeah so back to the tired Lee convo....I wonder if team scouts have noticed the "jazz hand" defense Lee has patented? Btw Milsap, Charlie, and Lee...Lee is behind both of them imho.

So Lee has two patents the jazz hands and the top double-double guy in the league.

So Boozer turns out to be a bigger jerk than we thought. First, at the start of the season, he announces that he will opt out and effectively sabotages the Jazz title hopes. Now he flip flops and will come back to the Jazz as a sour-puss, effectively sabotaging another season. This guy is a covert wrecking-ball.

I'd love to get Boozer here as a one year rental.

Why? So we can win 38 games? What are you gonna do with him after that 1 year? Why not just keep D Lee instead? Boozer's a little better than Lee but only a little.

He helps us give Utah a lower lottery pick AND we'd have his salary off the books in 2010. Win win

Why should we care if Utah gets a lower pick? What do you want to trade for him? We'd be giving up trade assets just to have him for a season. Usually teams do one year rentals in order to make a strong shot at winning a championship like the Brewers did with CC Sabbathia. I've never heard of a team doing it just to try to get the other team to have a lower draft pick.

I wouldn't give up much but I'd do Mobley and filler for Boozer. Utah saves big and get a warm body. I know it's doubtful but cant hurt to dream.

I'd rather use Mobley's expiring contract either to entice a team into taking Jeffries or ideally Curry or to get back someone who can be part of our long-term plans. Also, after what happened in Cleveland, I think Lebron would take it as a signal that we don't want him or have given up on him if we pursued Boozer.

I think its an indication of how weak the FA market is going to be in terms of the dollars being thrown around.
