Eddy Curry's suburban mansion in foreclosure

BY NATE MILLER

The multi-million dollar home of former Chicago Bulls player Eddy Curry in southwest suburban Burr Ridge is in foreclosure, according to a filing Monday in Cook County Circuit Court.

Bayview Loan Servicing filed a foreclosure notice against Curry, his wife, Patrice, Morgan Stanley Credit Corp., the People of Illinois and Kay Bros. Enterprises Inc.

According to the filing, Curry and his wife took out a $3,719,316 mortgage on the home at 6655 Lee Court on July 3, 2006. The mortgagee named on the filing is Eddy Curry.

At the time Curry and his wife took out the mortgage for the home, there was an initial monthly payment due of $28,675 with an interest rate of 9.25 percent, the filing said. During the repayment period, the interest rate could drop to no lower than 3.25 percent, and could not go higher than 15.25 percent.

If the Curry's made their monthly payments on time, their final mortgage payment would be due in August 2036.

As of June 26, 2009, the amount due is $217,502.82, the filing said.

The Burr Ridge home was the site where several men broke into the residence, restrained Curry and his family, and robbed them in July 2007.

Curry--who attended Thornwood High School and was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 2001--currently plays for the New York Knicks.

The filing seeks the house to be foreclosed, and put up for sale.

I always wondered why these athletes are going to buy these unbelievably expensive houses, when they aren't going to even be in them 95% of the time.

Just buy a nice house man. Not something outregeous and you can have so much more money to keep for yourself and your wife/husband and kids.

I guess he will definitely be exercising his player option so he can continue sitting on the bench and collecting a paycheck.

There really should be some kind of protection for teams against these types of players.

I just want to know where he is pissing his money away. Is he just aloof and not aware that he has to make payments or doesn't care he has to make payments. Where is his wife in these matters. You would think she would at least question where his finances are being disposed of. Oh well at least we can say Eddy is doing his best to help the circulation of money which in turn helps the economy. The banks don't even bother giving out loans anymore.

Well he has a number of kids he has to pay child support for. No? He probably has to pay a ton for that. Otherwise, you do wonder how he wastes so much.

I guess some people can't be responsible and rich and famous at once.

u'd figure w/how much he's making per year he could have paid for this house in full when he bought it in the first place.... $3.7 million for a guy pulling down over $10 mil per? i guess those child support payments were kicking his butt w/a vengeance.

Lesson is: Don't have sex a million times with women you don't trust and expect to be granted special powers by God himself. You may be a famous multi millionaire, but as long as you have the seeds, you're on the same level as everyone else. You're going to end up having to raise kids if you're not careful and responsible.

What were fixed rate mortgages going for back then? I got mine at 5.875% in 2002, and I know they were lower than that afterwards, although I don't know when they started creeping up. Was he paying over 9% because of the size of the loan? Wonder how much of a down payment he put on the house?

This is why some folks with a lot of $$ go in debt. M. Jackson is supposedly over 400 Million in debt because of Never Ever Land or whatever he called it.

You have to figure that when Eddie is about 50 we are going to be reading about the debt that he is in and how is is looking for money to start a rug cleaning business.

I bet if the Knicks offered him a buyout of his 2009 salary at 100% with him declining his PO option for the following year he would take that, ESPECIALLY if the money is up front. That would pretty much solve all your problems for cap space the next year, and even let you keep Lee around if needed and offer the MLE to a PG like Sessions.

That would also allow Eddie to play somewhere for the minimum and earn himself a big contract in 2010 if he plays well. Worst case is someone takes a (foolish) risk on the full MLE or more from the numerous cap spaced teams. Zero pressure for Eddie. I wish him well. He's a good kid... just dont want him here.

Nope, it wouldn't. CBA rules would still allocate the same salary to the cap for 2010 and 2011.

It would be ashame to lose a house purchased for 3.7 mil for $217,502.82. He was doing something right for a while to knock off that much of the mortgage. I gotta think he doesn't want the house anymore.

Let me ask this one stupid question--who the F is giving this guy financial advise? Why do you have a mortgage on your house at all Eddy Curry--are you that F stupid? The guy is making 10mm a year

If he makes 10mm he walks out with net 6.3mm. You buy the house in cash 3.7mm and set aside 25 years of tax payments in fixed income. That way your family is taken care of and the only expense you will incur is upkeep and operational bills electric water etc.. And guess what you still have enough money to lavishly furnish the house buy a new custom NY Knick mailbox and put two nice new cars in your garage. Maybe the next year you find a very nice vacation home and then bank everything else. Of course you *reasonably* help out immediate family members but that doesnt mean spending 20mm on them either. This way you take car of your wife and kids for life and make sure your Mom dad immediate siblings also are comfortable.

Everything else is waste

Maybe you guys can cut the kid some slack. I am sure you were all brilliant at managing your money when you were 19 years old. He's only 26 now and has a lot of people going after his money. People making claims that they wouldn't try with you and me cause we don't have 7 digits in our salaries. He got a couple big checks and made some bad decisions with them.

I am pretty tired of dragging the guy through the mud on a daily basis. At this point, if he puts on the Knicks uniform and performs, I hope the best for him.

Otherwise, I want to cut the Knicks losses as best as possible and move on.

I am interested to see what shape Eddy comes to training camp in. I hope he gets his act together.

when I moved to Atlanta I used to live next to a rookie player who was with the MLB montreal expos.. He then signed a huge deal with the Braves. I won't reveal his name, but we got to know each other as did my wife and his live in girlfriend. We both had our sons a week apart so we had some things in common. When he got that big deal, his girl told us, all the crap that came with it and how complicated his life became... From family, to friends to people wanting you to finance business deals. After some years he and his girlfriend seperated, but not after she gave him two kids. Now he had a huge child support payment and he purchased her a 400k house down the steet from him and a brand new custom lexus. these guys spend so much money and without good people around you, it is easy to lose it all.. just look at Holyfield. I pass his house(which is in forclosure again) every day on my way home, and I say to myself, who in the hell needs a 54 thousand square foot home on 200 acres.. just idiotic spending..

You dont let it go into foreclosure--even if it's underwater to the market.Pay it off and rent it out until the market changes if it's underwater. Generally a house like that still has a market anyway.
