* The Wolves did turn down that Knicks’ offer of No. 8 and Wilson Chandler for the No. 5, which Donnie Walsh would have used to take Rubio and not Stephen Curry.
I have heard several people on this board killing Donnie for not pulling the trigger on a trade that would have landed us Rubio at 5. I have read about several stories killing him for the same thing. Hey... what a suprise, he did try and the deal was shot down.

I remember him saying the same thing about the Nate/JJ trade to Sac as a salary dump and people killing him for that. Then he said "that was never on the table."

I think this guy is good and does a good job. I look at all those deals he made for Indy, all those guys he drafted and how few duds he had. The guy is methodical and puts good players on the floor. I expect the same here.

We know he's going to stick to his cap space plan, hopefully it yields us a star (or two).

People were killing him because grandpa was too slow in getting the 5th.

Rubio is more valuable than the 5th pick in the draft.

If Walsh had gotten the deal done with Washington we wouldnt be in this situation of overpaying for Rubio.

Chandler and Hughes/Mobley is about the same value as Miller and Foye when you factor in Chandler is on his rookie deal for 2 more years versus Foye who is a RFA in 2010 were teams are going to be looking to spend.

Now that we know the truth if it is the truth. Walsh has to get Rubio or its a giant failure on his part. I don't mind over paying for Rubio if that is the Knicks target and they feel he is there man to steer the ship then go get him in Orange and Blue ASAP.

If rubio went top 4 then we would have way overpaid for the 5th.

The clarity of hindsight is a wonderful talent to behold.

Curry dropped to the 7th, and we really don't know if he was that high on our board.

Donnie and other GM's now have the insight to who went where and both sides can evaluate a fair trade.

Chandler and the 8 MIGHT have been two high for Curry. If he loves rubio that much, he'll get him.

We don't have too much room to phuch up a gamble.

Well worse case Hill, Evans, or Harden would have been available at 5.

If trading Chandler and garbage is overpaying for those guys then I guess Chandler would have went 3rd in this draft.

Regardless with the 5th and 8th pick we could have snagged two of the following Rubio/Flynn/Jennings/Curry/Evans/Harden/Hill.

Those are some nice cheap long term rookie deals giving us cap flexibility thru 2011 when Chandler will be a RFA.

if that is true, why did walsh walk away from Washington when WAS asked for Wilson and pick 8. one of these rumors is false. i'm guessing this most recent one is false to try to cover that Walsh screwed up in a major way.

the knicks needed to walk out of this draft with Rubio or Curry. instead they got a journey man PF in the lottery. yawn.

people can spin all they want, but we all know this draft was an epic failure. let's move on.

Fact remains Washington traded the 5th pick for Miller(expiring) and Foye(Young Prospect). No pick was needed to get the Washington's pick. They would have likely preferred Mobley(Insurance pays 80%[8million]) and Chandler for Chandler's longer deal and the 8 million in free cash.

Sounds to me like Walsh was dragging his feet on getting back with Washington and Minny stepped up to the plate. Walsh probably wanted to wait to see who fell. You snooze you lose.

You know, that sounds like a pretty good trade before the draft, but now that the no.8 pick is Jordan Hill, I would not be so quick to trade Chandler/Hill for Rubio

It was a great deal before the draft but now it depends on if we want to pay Lee this summer. I guess we have to wait and see.

it shouldn't matter a bit and he should continue to grow and improve. shaq and vince just got traded, and neither for the first time. i guess it's not such a stigma.

the only players who are not realistically tradeable in this league are Duncan, Kobe, LeBron, CP3 and maybe a few others. All the rest deal with the possibility of being traded. Fact of life for an NBA'er

Or Chandler might gain confidence seeing the fact that Walsh values him enough to not throw him away. There's a positive way to look at it. Since none of us know how he will respond, no one is right here. As a Knicks fan, I'll hope the positive spin is the spin Chandler puts on it. Since you wanna rile up the board, you'll suggest the opposite.

Lets see what Walsh has up his sleeves. He knows that he wants Rubio and the world knows it. He fell asleep at the wheel, he should know that there is a fine line between patients and pulling the trigger to early on a trade. He has an opportunity to help his situation and his friends situation in Minn. I can see them getting a solid deal done that will benefit both teams.

So what would you call being traded to Minnesota?
