This comes from ESPN Insider, which as most know is copied and pasted from a NY paper.
A league source says the Lakers inquired about Nate Robinson's availability after his 33-point performance at Staples Center on Dec. 16, writes Alan Hahn of Newsday.

Hahn reports Kobe Bryant has expressed adoration for Robinson and owner Jerry Buss was said to be smitten after that game.

The Knicks and Kings were close to a deal, which would have sent Robinson and Jared Jeffries to Sacramento before the trade deadline and according to Hahn, there are indications that the deal could still take place this summer.

Gotta love the first sentence. Who else thinks Alan Hahn = "league source"

Man, could you imagine Nate in purple and gold out there with the best player and the best coach in the game in his ear? Yikes.

Look what it did for Trevor Ariza (yeah, yeah, contract year, I know).

As long as Jeffries goes with him, good luck Nate.

Nate is Derek Fisher on roids. We can't forget how good our guy is....we know he is a headcase but his talent is off the hook. That 30pt streak was epic. Nates attitude is the only thing keeping him from completely locking down the pg spot....

Robinson off the bench as a scorer for 15-25 min is a great asset.

Robinson playing 30+ min is not a good look.

Nate is a borderline superstar. His talent is off the charts. The Knicks fans can't devalue his worth.

He's not a pg, he is a guard! Let him give you 15 - 20pts a night and be happy.

Nate is good piece of entertainment.
If you want to win something he is a roadblock.
The road to winning is boring, Nate is entertaining.
Everyone can choose what he likes more.

I really don't know what to think of Nate. He's had runs where it looked like he could score with anyone in the NBA. I dunno what you pay a player like him. I wouldn't hesitate to give him the full MLE if I was a team like the Lakers though.

Nate can't be stopped, plain ans simple and on a better team with actual good players is a star. His numbers are identical to Mo Williams and he doesn't have a player in the lineup that draws a doable team. You think Ariza looked good hitting open shots? Nate would average 18pts a night with LA at the pg spot. Fish is a good player and hits some big shots but with that team Nate would be just fine as the starter.

This douglas kid is probably going to fill Nate's role. Douglas can score (probably not as good as nate in that department) and he is a legitimate lockdown defender (much better than Nate). The only real question is whether Douglas can play PG competently enough to serve as the backup for 12-20 minutes.

Nate isn't a point guard true indeed....but it doesn't just stop with his scoring mentality....he is just not a good teamate on the floor forget about leader. He has outbursts where he goes "nooooo!!!" "wtf!!!!" "what are you doing?" "come on man!!!!".....all the good point guards would never do that. All the winners would never do that. There's no vet on the team to challenge that mentality and correct it. You see D'antoni chewin him out sometimes but the Knicks need guys on the bench to do that. Larry Hughes is valuable in that respect and Nate did mention that last season.

Anyway....its a shame to say bye to a player like Nate but yo...he needs to be on a ready made team where the leaders on the team can channel him and get him in the right frame of mind. Kobe, Gasol, Odom, Fisher, and Phil....that's plenty.

Nate is prob one of those guys that is similar to Ariza, on a bad team he is mediocre with flashes of good to great, but on a playoff team with strong leaders, he can flourish.

on a team like that with Kobe getting older he can play the mins where Kobe needs a blow or a relief to the scoring load and come in and domiNATE for 15 a game
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Nate is a borderline superstar. His talent is off the charts. The Knicks fans can't devalue his worth.

Oh, you know they have and will continue to do so...he'll go to L.A or somewhere and rack up All-Stars and chips. A common mistake fans of losing teams make is dumping every player in the trash heap as if every single player is a problem.

Nate is not a problem, but he is not a solution. He is luxury item... and LA can afford it. Knicks not.

problem is they have nothing we'd want in return... no thanks to guys like Jordan Farmar, Luke Walton, Adam Morrison or Sasha Vujacic, i'd rather just keep Nate in that case.

if the offer was something like Derek Fisher's expiring & LA's unprotected pick in 2010, i might reconsider but only as a very last option... i think we should be able to get back more than that in a trade for Nate Rob.

Unprotected pick? I don't think protecting the pick will be an issue!
