Worst draft night: Knicks
New York spent $5 million in trades to select Toney Douglas with the 29th pick and to acquire center Darko Milicic. Douglas is a 6-foot-2 shooting guard who projects poorly to the NBA, while Milicic is an epic draft bust who isn't going to be suddenly cured by a "system."

I'm not thrilled with what the Knicks did at No. 8, either, getting Arizona big man Jordan Hill. Perhaps all the dysfunction in Tucson kept Hill from performing better, but I suspect the Spurs got a better player at No. 37 than the Knicks did at No. 8. New York needs a point guard, too, but passed on Brandon Jennings and Ty Lawson in order to take Hill.

I have no problem with the reactions to both hill and douglas ranging from A+ to F. I guarantee you every single team that picked from #2 on is facing the same responses.

Agreed. All we heard about before the draft was that there were no sure things in the draft other than Griffin. So everyteam is in the same boat, praying that their guy is the guy that does well. All the talk, is just talk. Jordan Hill and Douglas will prove it on the court or they won't. The talk is pointless.

And what did Hollinger think about the Timberwolves' draft strategy?

Ford had us as a winner. I liked Lawson and so did Hollinger- he's gonna rate anyone who needed a PG and didn't take his top ranked guy as a loss. But Hollinger is not really focusing on what we got for our cost and what little downside risk we're taking on taking on a guy like Darko. The Knicks hit 3 needs in this draft- bench guard, and big bodies up front (we needed more than 1). I think we still need shooting and a PG, but we have some assets left to burn.

He'd take Lawson over Hill.

The Darko trade was a no brainer and a no-lose trade. Did anyone think we could get more for Richardson??!! At the very worst he gives you extra fouls to give in the 5 slot, and at best we get a guy who can play 20 minutes and give us 6-8 PPG, 5-7 RPG, and 1-2 BPG. And to top it off his contract expires at the end of the year, so if he does not work out he is gone, and if MDA can somehow squeeze something out of him and we decide to resign him, we have a 7' athletic guy who can be a nice rotational player.

If Darko can somehow become a "Marcin Gortat" for us, it would be pretty nice.

Doing the things Gortat does isn't asking for too much imo.

It's asking way too little. He is levels above Gortat, man!

Hollinger's system also rated Derrick Rose and Mayo to be future bust. His best one is that Bosh was going to be a role player while Mike Sweetney was going to be the low post star. There isn't much to take from ESPN except for Bilas whom seems the only guy to have any real knowledge.

Bilas also called Marcus Williams the best pure PG in the draft that year... judging prospects is like playing the lottery in that anyone can do it & anyone can get lucky w/a pick every once in a while... obviously these draft guru's do their due diligence & scout these kids thoroughly when making projections, but as has been proven over the years, it's always a crap shoot.

There was a pretty fair article posted here about a week ago on Hollinger's system. He had mistakes but he was way better than the GMs were in their actual drafting. His system deserves no criticism from us.

That's all well fine and good but they act as though their scouting is gold. So when a GM differentiates against their precious scouting reports, the said GM is writen up as an idiot, moron, etc... But when they call Bosh a role player, it's like oh yeah I got that wrong, my bad. No big deal. That is far a too easy of an out for those with the mighty pen.

Did he really say that Rose and Mayo were going to be busts?
