Jazz forward Paul Millsap appears to be seeking a contract similar to the one David Lee is commanding.

Multiple reports have said that Lee, a restricted free agent with the Knicks, is looking for a multi-year deal worth $10 million annually.

DeAngelo Simmons, Millsap's rep and uncle, has suggested that Millsap deserves a similar deal.

"I really can't say (precisely how much money Millsap is seeking)," said Simmons. "But the two guys are pretty close, with what we're looking at."

So, 5 years of course that would be the offer any team can give him besides us.
Then, it's never 10M annually it's STARTING at 10M then you factor in the raises.

Not quite, but, approximately it would look like:

10-11-12-13-14

(more like 10-10.8-11.7-12.7-13.9 but whatever)

5 Years, 60M for Lee?

No thanks not even close to what I'd consider (starting at say 7.5M maximum and even then that's a lot for a guy you'd rather have off the bench)

I don't really see how or why we keep Lee even though I know management would like to.

5 years 50mm sounds pretty fair.

That's not what he wants that would be roughly starting at 8M looking like 8-9-10-11-12 and even that is a bit steep for a guy who isn't well rounded and would have to start at such a salary and has already shown signs of losing his speed and athleticism.

His agent wanted to start at 14M last fall remember? LOL

There are plenty of player around Lee's statistics that did indeed get those 5 or 6 year - 60M dollar deals. Nene comes to mind and he wasn't even as good. Wilcox too from Seattle if I recall?

So it's not far fetched that Memphis could ink him to a 5yr 55M offer sheet - which is just too much money for us to take on for Lee, a guy that is only a starter on a very good team if he's paired with a superior front court player - like you know - Duncan, Shaq, KG, Dwight, etc. If he is your best FC player you are going nowhere.

It says $10 mil annually. $50 mil over 5 years comes out to $10 mil annually. I believe you can pay him exactly $10 mil each year if you want to.

damn..so you can demand that type of money when you have never made an All-Star team, and havent led your team to even an 8 seed in the playoffs?

A likely mistake how many player contracts do you see that are even across the board year to year? Only Shaq's restructured deal that he said okay make it 20M a year for 5 years comes to mind.

You start at your base and you get your 8% (or whatever it is) raises each year moving forward.

I highly doubt Lee will go 10-10-10-10-10. I also wouldn't pay him that anyway.

7-8-9-10-11 (again, it'd be like 7-7.6-8.4, etc but no use to do that math its just for arguments sake) would be MUCH more palatable.

5yrs/45M starting at 7M is what I'd give a player like Lee.

Seeking is the key word, I doubt he fetches that-- with us or any other team. Wishful thinking David Lee, but I love you, and I will miss you when you are gone.

It's looking like the economy and shrinking cap will make anyone think twice about those numbers. I just don't see him getting close to that. The QO is more than likely, but it is looking like Donnie is in a good bargaining position to set his price and term.

Interesting but rare. Plenty of times the articles state a player wants "___M annually" and they end up on a scaled contract with annual raises.

Still moot. 10M is not worth it to watch Lee get torched on defense, stuffed on offense, throw away the ball with lazy passes, continue to slow down and break down, and try to act like he has a legit offensive game.

Sorry, no thanks.

Eh, teams will still spend on individual players they are just more reluctant to go over the cap adding an additional player. I feel Donnie will do right with Lee. He doesn't seem to panic. He won't match an absurd contract and he won't do an S&T just to claim he got something in return if it would hurt our cap situation.

If David Lee wants an average of $10 million per season then the contract would look like this (with max 10.5% raises) for the Knicks :

6 years :

$7,920,795
$8,752,478
$9,584,162
$10,415,845
$11,247,529
$12,079,212
----------------
$60,000,022

5 years :

$8,264,470
$9,132,239
$10,000,009
$10,867,778
$11,735,547
----------------
$50,000,044

For another team it's only a max 8% raise and 5 years so the offer would look like this :
$8,620,690
$9,310,345
$10,000,000
$10,689,656
$11,379,311
---------------
$50,000,002
