like the idea of getting a bunch of late first round talent. Weak draft from 3-12 under normal circumstance, but deep talent later. Knicks need young, cheap, eager-to-prove talent.

The Knicks should try to acquire it too. One smart route the Knicks can go now is use one of the late first or second round picks they acquire on a player that may need to stay oversea in europe for another year but that has potential. Like Omri Casspi (late 1st round) or maybe Vyacheslav Kravtsov (2nd round).

Exciting stuff.

This is a great day to be fan of Knicks basketball. Hopefully, Donnie Walsh has Isiah Thomas stashed in the war room for a third opinion on the number 29 selection.

Can you say David Lee?

Can you say Chris Taft? That is who Isiah wanted. Brendan Suhr did his job and convinced Isiah otherwise.

I say there is a very good chance Memphis gets Thabeet at 2, then looks to trade Darko and the 27 to us for QRich and the 29.

Whom gets picked at 27 and sent our way is unknown. I see a lot of people talking about Dionte Christmas? I dunno. BJ Mullens?

Cosmic - just curious, how do you know that Isiah wanted Chris Taft?

were you in the draft room?

It was widely reported through and through pre, during, post draft, all summer afterwards, and is considered common knowledge that Isiah was persuaded by his staff to select David Lee and not Chris Taft.

Taft had been as high as 8 - being our pick - on early mocks. Isiah was estatic such a talent had fallen so far and wanted him. His staff, doing their job, persuaded him otherwise.

There is nothing wrong with that, so don't go getting all geared up to defend Isiah on my account, but it is widely known and accepted this is what transpired.

Now, can you tell me that Isiah DIDNT want Chris Taft? No, you can't, so it's moot. I'm going on what was widely reported. Unconfirmed, but, widely reported.

3m$ in this sense equates to roughly 50$ in the budget of a working man. This is something they throw around when the time is right, like when the working man buys a new video game.

It might be a lot for us, but it doesn't equate that way. sure, on the surface, 3m$ will hire an employee for decades on salary, but that employee will not even come close to the return that 3m$ spent on player transactions will reach.

Widely Reported and Common Knowledge

Cosmic - with all due respect, there is a point where fans who receive nothing more than third-hand reports provided opinionators get too carried away in the hype. For a moment, forget the mock drafts, which are opinion... and the need to fill the 24 hour news cycle with something... anything... to maintain the public's attention.

Mock Drafts are exactly what they say they are. Mock.

The intimate closed door meetings where the decisions are made, normally attended by a tight inner cirlce of people have absolutely nothing to do with the speculation of random writers for newspapers or blogs. Researching, evaluating and discussing individual players is a unique process each franchise undertakes under tight security. NBA practices are closed to beat writers.

The sideline executive discussions are restricted to only a few people. Period. Unless you have been in the room you have no idea what is said. It is SPECULATION.

As one who has worked closely with the front office of an NBA franchise, take it from The Answer Man... what goes on behind closed doors looks nothing like a Marc Berman column or the speculation... speculation... that passes as journalism.

This ain't fantasy.

^^earl, have you worked closely with the front office of an NBA franchise? How would one infiltrate something like that? If you had to quantify it, how 'on-target' are fan speculations regarding player movement, scale of 1-10?
