Of course! We need good character guys just as much as we need talented players.

It happens that you have good people on your team, good things come out of it-- like wins. so they go hand in hand, good people and good players make good teams.

Well said Blobber. They go hand in hand.

When was the last time a team filled with Zach Randolph/Marbury-like attitudes won a championship? Probably never.

just as a point, the 02/03 knicks had a bunch of good people on the team: kurt thomas, h20, ward, harrington, shandon, etc...but alot of people couldn't wait to blow it up...

you beat me too it.. I was about to say that KVH, Kurt, Eisley, Anderson, Harrington, etc were all wonderful human beings and nice fellows. God that team stunk.

I would like to avoid total douchebags like Marbury, Ricky Davis, Sheed, etc
I can handle mental cases like Artest, Starks, Kurt Thomas, Rodman, Nate

Right, but KVH, Kurt, Eisley, Anderson, and Othella all sucked (i known Kurt was good and KVH put up numbers, but as a group they're garbage), too. You can't have ONLY good men, and you can't have ONLY talented men, but you do need BOTH if your team is going to contend.

I care about who they are as basketball players, as I'll be rooting for their basketball team. I care that they are passionate about the sport and want to give their best every time they go out. I care that they keep always trying to improve their game and improve their teammates game too. I care that they buy the system they are into and work indeed as a team instead of being selfish and indifferent if they win or lose.

I care that they have a winning mentality.

Other than that, its their business because anything else would be personal and Im not rooting for their personal lives. You hope them well, as to anyone, but thats about it.

really? who were the good guys on those piston teams that won back to back titles? Dont mistaken "good guys" for chemistry. Some of the best teams in sports history were full of degenerates from top to bottom. Talent rules first and foremost

Just because those Pistons were remembered mostly for being tough guys, doesn't mean that they didn't have good character guys on their team. John Salley comes to mind.

I can just as easily cite the Spurs teams, who I feel are much better than those Pistons, as perfect examples of good men and good players.

good/bad character guys are one way to look at it.

how about guys you just don't like as nba players? could you be fans of theirs if they came to the knicks?

what about forming of team of non-homegrown talent? does that take away from anything?

^^ lol, yea, that is pretty funny stuff.

To understand the humor, the feeling, in that tirade you would have to be a native speaker of that language...there are no native speakers of that language that wouldn't die laughing after watching that clip...it's more funny than anything and it is not directly analogous to someone saying the same things in English..... the subtitles fail to capture the essence, as is often the case with subtitles.

I am serious.

It is not analogous to someone saying those same things in English.

If someone said that in English it would be horrible. In Serbian, it is different. And a native English speaker can't EVER understand the true meaning and emotion that Darko came with.

Dude if you know exactly what he said and think the subtitles fail, give us your translation since it seems Darko and you share the same nationality. And even if you don't, give us your translation.

The direct translation is pretty accurate.

But the cultural differences prevent English speakers from understand the underlying meaning.

For example, "jebem ti mater" is directly translated "f your mother", but 'jebem ti mater' is used almost colloquially in Serbian informal conversations while saying 'f your mother' in English is sacrilege.

Another example is "jebem ti misa", or "f a mouse". No one wants to do that to a mouse, and saying this in English would be absurd.

The direct translation is not always the one that captures the intended meaning.

true

As long as these guys aren't molesting kids or drunk driving...I could care less what they do off the court and who they are friends with.
do you care who the players are on the team?
