The Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors are closing in on a trade that would find a new home for Jamal Crawford.

NBA Rumor Central

ESPN Insider has the updated buzz from the National Basketball Association rumor mill.
Story Insider

NBA front-office sources say that the Warriors and Hawks will soon complete a deal sending Crawford to Atlanta for Acie Law and Speedy Claxton.

Warriors coach Don Nelson made no secret of the fact that Crawford wasn't in his future plans. By shedding Crawford's longer contract and by virtue of insurance payments that will cover some of the costs of Claxton, Golden State would secure a decent measure of payroll relief with the trade.

Less clear is what impact the move will have on Atlanta's forthcoming negotiations with free agent-to-be Mike Bibby. Although Crawford is not a pure point guard, he's a prolific scorer whose arrival could affect the sort of contract offer Bibby expected to command from the Hawks.

Well, if GS are trading for 2 PG's, do they still select a guard in the draft? Is it possible that Jordan Hill winds up in GS and they trade Randolph or Wright? Maybe they trade down or sell the pick. This is getting kwazee

LOL if u think Crawford isn't a significant upgrade over Acie Law & Speedy Claxton dude... if they're letting Bibby walk because of this trade, then u have another story, but Jamal adds another viable scoring option on that team & a lot more depth.

Craw makes no sense with that team. Playing next to Joe Johnson? horrible horrible fit.

I think this all but spells the end for Bibby...no way they have two expensive PG's, so we have to assume Mike walks. Its a gamble, but Crawford has a lot of talent, and he's got to know its now or never. He couldnt ask for a better spot after years of playing on shyt teams.

i don't get your reasoning... he'd make an excellent 6th man scorer off the bench for them (assuming they are still able to hold onto Bibby)

I think it spells the end for an aging Bibby. I'm assuming they're planning on starting Jamal and Joe. If Jamal is a sixth man, it might be a different story.

joe johnson had a down season last year. and hawks may end up trading josh smith. and marvin is a restricted free agent who was injured down the stretch. team is in somewhat of flux with the joe johnson 2010 thing going on too...they could make a few more moves...

The Hawks have so many young pieces.. they couldn't find a better deal than going for Crawford?

The thing about this trade is it doesn't really tell the knicks if the warriors will go for hill or if they will draft one of the guards we want.

The Hawks have options, they can trade jamal or let bibby walk. If JC is your 2 and JJ is your three, ball handling and playing making can be done by them for the most part.

i think this trade does show the warriors will go guard.

i really hope the knicks don't draft Hill.

Just Crawful. What is Atlanta thinking? They were too good and had too much team chemistry? Can't wait to see Crawful getting 19ppg off of 21FGAs per game while Horford, Bibby, and Joe Johnson stand still and watch him jack a brick and then get torched by his man on the other end. Crawful can't cry that he's bombing out because he's on a crap team anymore I suppose.
