Rip, wasn't to happy with that Billups trade. Joe Dumars doesn't make to many mistakes but both times he made mistakes Denver made out like bandits.

If that's the best they can do with their cap space, they ought to just announce that they no longer intend to win championships.

I think you have to set a price first and take it from there. Maybe Dumars is looking to sign multiple FAs.

Sign multiple FAs in 2010. Don't waste cap space on Ben Gordon.

I doubt it since they are in the market for Lebron and wouldn't want to do anything that would assist the Cavs in getting him to stay.

Pfft. Believe me I'm not saying this because I think the Knicks have a great chance at signing him but honestly.. the Pistons have absolutely 0 chance of signing LeBron James. Same goes for Wade.

Yeah, I get it but I am not sure if Dumars is ready to concede the point though. So he will be careful as far as helping out Cleveland. I think any team that is in the market for Lebron will be doing the same. Cleveland will most likely have to seek help from teams too cap out and have no chance in 2010.

Nah, I agree with you. Didn't think about that when I had Rip going there, you're probably right.

You know the funny thing is that you have gms like Chris Wallace talking about 2010. He is basically saying that he is team will be ready to pounce on sloppy seconds and thirds. The guy is selling that to his fanbase but I think he is right there will be decent quality guys scrambling for a contract after the big boys go.

Yeah they will probably be in the mix but Chris Wallace is a clown. They gotta make a good selection this year and then hope to sign a Joe Johnson type player to throw into that mix and hope it works.

I think Detroit is making the mistake the Knicks made when they traded Patrick. They lost their leader and their overall identity. The championship run is over. It's time to rebuild around the young guys instead of trying to build on the fly.

Agreed. They already held onto their guys too long and made a poor decision with the Billups/AI trade.

Depends on how much of a rebuild they want to do.

They "dumped" billups which they can use AI's expiring.

Billups was a great pickup for the Nuggs who needed that kind of leadership. But not all teams do.

RashWeed is cooked and perhaps moving on.

I doubt they could have gotten a trade using billups for a quality big man in his prime.

Im not saying Boozer is one, but they might see it that way.

At least they got a big expiring and not a resigned Glen Rice and Luke longley in return for Patrick. Had we just "dumped" patrick that would not have hampered us for so long.

I'm not saying it's going to hamper them for 10 years, I'm just saying it's time to start over.

what does starting over mean? they haven't been bad enough to get high picks. they have cap room - so what should they do? don't sign anyone this offseason and just draft players?

Start over, means start building a new core. Rebuilding does not mean draft picks. You have been posting with me long enough to know this is my review. Rebuilding means getting rid of the current core and finding new players to win with. Instead they are going to hang on to aging players and hope a free agent can put them over the top. It will make them competitive but I dont' see anyone that is going to put them in the class with the young guns coming up.
