The playoff success of the Houston Rockets without Tracy McGrady has made the injury-plagued all-star expendable. With one year and $23.2M left on his deal -- plus the baggage he brings with him as a high-maintenance personality -- there are few teams that can afford to bring him in. The Knicks, obviously, are one.

As I said in another thread where this was posted...

I'll do a TMac trade as long as we are sending off Curry or Jeffries in the deal.

We have no incentive to be losers next year. If TMac manages to play he'd potentially help us get a playoff spot.

The trade proposal you suggest is a no brainer.

For 1 year that would be great, especially if we can ship Curry out. He is so fragile though I wonder if he would even make it through the season but it wouldnt matter if he expires at the end of the season. I like T-Mac and if he did work out I bet he would make a great sidekick to Lebron if he would accept the role...ahhhh to dream...

They don't need Duhon and why do that trade and take Jeffries when you could just let McGrady expire?

who do they have playing point behind Brooks?

As for Jeffries, he would be the only other person on that team besides Yao taller than 6'6.

Kyle Lowry.

And over-exaggerate much? Scola, Hayes, Landry are all better than Jeffries, which means he wont play at all on that team. Plus, his contract sucks.

Kyle Lowry was is and may forever be a 3rd string pg.

As for Jeffries - being long athletic and willing to defend will always have value in the NBA. see Kwame Brown for proof.

whether they like Jeffries or not, there is no way Hou goes into next season with thoughts to advance past LAL with 3 smallish frontcourt guys and Yao as their bigs

Successful Trade Scenario
Congratulations on a successful trade.

Due to New York and Houston being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. New York and Houston had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

the mobley/ hughes trade that alan hahn proposes saves Houston $7.5M (the ammount of mobley's contract that is covered by insurance) and gives them hughes, a defensive SG who fits into their team concept to replace McGrady and is more durable.

i agree - as a one year rental, what's the harm?

Cuttino and Hughes for T-mac makes mucho sense...I'm thinking Clevland could probably ship more and they should at least try. A lot of teams could try to get him. Its about who Houston wants to make the deal with.

Trade Harrington while you are at it with #8 for Bosh.

There are a million ways this off-season can go....with the economy and the amount of displaced players around....I anticipate a lot of movement this off season.

I am curious about Mobley's trade situation. Can he be traded if the other team waves the physical or is it more complicated than that because insurance is paying for most of his contract?

nah its not complicated at all...he's just a contract right now. Teams can except him via trade as a way to save money...Teams can basically delete a player and won't have to fit the bill cuz the insurance is paying for the greater majority of Cuttino's last year.

So they could trade T-mac for Hughes and Cuttino and save liek 7 mill right off the top immediately. Its a very powerful trade option for our Knicks.

I'd trade for McGrady if we could get rid of Eddy and/or JJ2. The guy is always injured and, when healthy, isn't the player he was. Any trade for T-Mac should not be made to acquire him. It should be made to help us with our 2010 cap.

Eddy Curry and Hughes(or any expiring) for T-Mac. Take it or leave it. They might take this since Yao is too injury prone and Dikembe is done. They need another big body and they might be delusional enough to think they can motivate Eddy.
