No it is not and this is why I throw a ranting fit every time I see a thread pushing to sign some other team's role player with the hope it makes us good. How exactly is that roster going to compete? It can't and it won't and that's why I try to say outside of a maximum of six players on today's roster you'd be lucky to see at most three of them on the future roster heading towards the 2010-2011 season. So in that I don't see the point of wondering if a Gortat, or a Stephon Curry, or whoever would be a great find or addition to this team. It won't be for those guys aren't star players who can carry teams and you can't add a role player and think it's going to turn a team full of role players into a playoff bound team.
Gallo is an unknown due to injury and youth. Chandler is grossly overrated here. Hughes is a chucking fool as we all knew even before he came here. Duhon can't carry the load as we saw. Q's body has failed him and turned him into an inconsistent undependable player. Eddy is a slob. Jeffries is a terribly overrated "intangibles" player who does everything equally terrible.
How on earth is that roster anything more than a 32 win team? It's not.
We need to get our heads in the game as a fan base and understand this roster is not meant to compete, it is not meant to be added to as if it is a solid core of players to improve upon, and the majority won't be here in another 13 months anyway.
We're rebuilding folks. The right way. That way is you tear down all the garbage first, disregard who you got in return in the short term as financial relief and nothing more, and understand that until July 2010 you won't know what is going on roster wise because THAT is the date you can actually start ADDING PLAYERS to a clean slate roster.
Until then, honestly, enough with the scrubs and 2nd round picks, etc. They're all part of a pointless discussion.
I actually think Gortat could end up being good... he plays behind Dwight Howard, is coached by Pat Ewing, and looks good in limited minutes, has an NBA body... but it is a risk for certain and I don't see how taking those types of risks entices LeBron James or puts the team in the financial position to do so.
