¡Sergio Rodríguez a los Knicks!

lun jun 08 12:28

25 de junio de 2009. Madison Square Garden.

The jist of this is apparently that Sergio is coming to the Knicks in a draft day trade with the Blazers.

According to a report from Yahoo-Eurosport, the Knicks will acquire Sergio Rodriguez in a draft night trade.

Sources from the Knicks say the two sides have had a deal agreed upon for almost three weeks.

Mike D'Antoni is reportedly driving the interest in the Portland point guard.

Here's the thing to me... if you're going to get max value out of the bottom third of this draft, then you have to pick a point guard.

Lawson, DeColo, Beaubois, Collison, Mills, any of those guys would be good with the 24th pick.

So, are we bringing in Sergio and flipping the 8th pick for the 24th and then picking... what would we get there besides a PG?

Got to be more to it than this.

I think he likes the way foreign guys play
Maybe they believe that they cant get Curry or Duhon is out of here? Or they know they are getting Rubio and want Rodriguez here with him. Something like that.

Wow! I know Eny and Finest are going to be happy. I've been calling for Sergio to be brought to the Knicks for a while.. I think he'll do a great job under MikeD, he's that fast type PG that MikeD loves to have. I know he didn't play well in Portland and kinda fell out of favor, but I think his game is well-suited for this team. Just needs to work on his J a bit, but I think MikeD can get the best out of him.

I wonder what the trade is?

I'd love it if we could get Outlaw or Webster in this deal too...

i would assume a future 2nd rounder...portland looking to cut some payroll to re-sign some of their guys.

I like Sergio but have cooled on him recently. He's flashy and creative and I still think he has a shot to be WAY more productive with an expanded role under a guy like D'Antoni than he is now (with 30-35+ mins. this guy could be a top 5 assist guy every year, maybe top 3 EASILY - that's how good a playmaker I think he could be fulltime) but I'm not sure he'll ever be the top tier lead guard I'd like us to eventually get. If we had a chance to deal up or stand pat at 8 and get a Stephen Curry, that's the way to go. Steph Curry is flat out a much better player across the board than Sergio Rodriguez IMO. Not even close - Curry will be a much better offensive player and Curry has some nice, effective PG skills and court vision of his own. If there's any truth to this rumor, there better be a SUBSTANTIAL PACKAGE coming back in return otherwise I'm content drafting ourselves at 8...

25 of June of 2009. Madison Square Garden. In that day draft” of the NBA will be celebrated “. In that day we will officially meet the future of Sergio Rodriguez. Officiously already we can advance that, after three seasons in Portland, the canary base will see more fulfilled another dream in its promising race like basketball player: to get dressed the t-shirt the New York Knicks, one of the equipment of greater prestige of the NBA.

According to sources of the New York equipment, consulted by Yahoo-Eurosport, the agreement closed 20 days ago between the Blazers and the Knicks. The surroundings of the player, who does not want to make declarations until day 25, walk bottled in these days in closing daily subjects than it is going to be the daily life of the player in New York.

The technician of Italian origin, Mike D'Antoni, has been the main defender of the signing of “the Chacho” by the Knicks. The equipment of New York confronts a period of transition in the hope of the season 2010-2011, in which it is wanted to give to a blow of monumental effect with the signing of Lebron James, who in summer of next year will be free agent after finalizing his contract with the Cavaliers of Cleveland. Hiring of Sergio, that is conformed perfectly to the type of game that New York would do with James, would have consequences collaterals for another one of our great bases, Blond Ricky, that would remain without site in the equipment of Great Apple.

The first stage of Sergio is closed therefore Rodriguez in the best league of the world. A period more of lights and shades that of garden of roses, in which there have been lights and shades, but that has left the clear ones well that Nate McMillan does not trust its qualities to direct to those of Oregon. In this last season, the canary player has participated in 80 parties, including 13 like titling when Steve Blake was injured its shoulder. Their averages have been of 4.4 points and 3.6 attendances in 15 minutes. The drop that overwhelmed the glass arrived in the first round from '' Play-Offs '' from the series against Houston, in which it divided equally five minutes by party.

To the conclusion of the last party, '' 11 '' of the Blazers declared to the newspaper “The Oregonian”: “Here, I do not believe that it can do more. It is impossible. I do not know which is going to be my future, but believe that it is going to pass something, or a crossing or something. Fodder in me and I feel that I need a change”.

Said and done. The agent of the player, Jose Ortiz, who already had had contacts with the Knicks and several equipment more in the month of February, reached an agreement with the New York tax exemption for next the three seasons.

Meanwhile, the player continues in Madrid, training under the orders of Cuspinera J - technician of the Students with the aim of improving the defense and changing his technique of shot. The objective: to begin the season to top and to leave good sensations from the minute one in which it is going to be his new house: Madison Square Garden. Change of garden for one of our great players. Hopefully it is for improving.

Here's an idea -- I'm not sure what Marcus Williams is up to now but I think he's a FA (he went to Europe for a quick stretch before returning to the States to sign a small deal with the Spurs last April). Instead of trading away the #8 for Sergio Rodriguez and a bunch of low picks maybe just grab Williams on the cheap. He might have as much potential as Sergio when you get right down to it. Grab Marcus Williams and just keep the 8th pick. Again, I'm not relinquishing the 8th pick unless there's a strong package coming back.

If we get the number 2 and Sergio, then that sounds like we're drafting Thabeet. If that's the case, where do I sign?

I am still warming up more and more to Curry, but if we find a way to end up with Thabeet, Walsh did OK in my book.
