Just curious, does anyone think that Curry can turn into a Stockton type PG? I'm really starting to think that this kid can develop into just what we need for the future. The time is now to develop a PG and this kid might just be the right fit at the right time. We need alot of things, but I think it all starts with the right leader and I think this kid has what it takes to be a leader and a floor general. He might not be the biggest, fastest or most athletic guard in the draft, but neither was Stockton. The kid has silky smooth stroke, wants the ball in clutch time, has a good basketball IQ, good court vision and can learn to run the point and is willing to make everyone else around him better. I think he can improve his handle and get those assist numbers up and become a dbl/dbl machine like Stockton...dunno, just a hunch I guess but I like the pick at #8.

I've never regarded SC as anything near as tenacious as JS. I view him as more or a Bibby type, but perhaps a bit better in almost all areas (shooting, a bit bigger).

tough call rook. even stockton wasnt stockton back in college. he showed flashes, but didnt truly develop until in utah and playing w malone. i believe point guards need effective players around them in order for them to be effective as well. so, w the knicks, since we dont know who the future is yet, its tough to say how this kid would play for them. on his skills overall, again a tough call. does he have court vision - check. can he make the extra pass - check. can he hit the jumper when needed - check, although still some work to be done on the consistency end.

does he have the right attitude and work ethic to truly be great when he gets into the league - TBD. so many untangibles that make players successful, just a tough call.

A kid who isn't a true PG isn't going to turn into someone like Stockton, was was a true PG.

And as purple stated, Curry may not be as fierce of a competitor as Stockton was. But the verdict isn't out on that yet, he hasn't played an NBA game. There is a good chance Curry will be the better scorer, as Stockton averaged 13ppg for his career. But I highly doubt he'll have the playmaking vision and basketball IQ that Stockton had.

JS was also VERY strong despite his appearance suggesting otherwise. And this is SC's primary weakness (pun intended I guess).

I see SC as a more like Doug Christie type of player or a Matt Barnes.

I don't see those comps at all. Christie was an ELITE athlete who worked to eventually become an acceptable shooter. Matt Barnes is a backup small forward type who is nowhere near SC.

I don't see the Stockton or Nash comparisons.

I guy I sometimes think of is Nick VanExcel -- but without the attitude and with a head on his shoulders.

Nick wasn't super fast or super quick and he was a shoot-first type point but he could shoot the rock and had ice water in his veins.

Besides the lefty/righty thing, that's an interesting comp. Although I still think Mike Bibby is the most likely.

Number 1 we dont have Karl Malone and number 2 Steph Curry is not a pure PG like Stockton. There are a lot of nice things about Curry--and he *should* be a nice solid player but there is another side of this where I can see a scenario where he is just a niche player. If he was 4-5 inches taller I think he would be the next Reggie Miller if that is a constellation:)

I would like to see what he measures in at and I would like to hear about some of his private workout match ups.

well, considering that there might never be someone who can match stockton's prowess, no, curry cannot even come close.

stockton has 15,000+ dimes, almost 5,000 more than the next fella.

and even if curry turns into a good point guard, it will take some time. stockton was a point guard since birth.

Nice picks...
One guy is looking where to run... and another where are the teammates...
And one defender is just looking how to stop his man but another is... well... helpless. You cannot outrun the ball.

Stockton was the best ever PG to play the game - outside of calling Magic a PG.

Curry is a gunner in an inferior NCAA league.

Big difference here.....

I absolutely hate it when guys use stats to use as an example to prove why a player isn't like another...

I never thought about Stockton as a comparison....now with thinking about his game mannerisms and body type....I can totally see where the comparrison is coming from.

Now obviously the kid hasn't played an NBA game, and nobody is crowning his kid a 50 greatest player yet....still the kids heart and poise is on the right track. Stockton was as basic as you get and Curry is the same. Stockton was a great shooter as well and shot superb from the floor. I think the comparrison is spot on.

Now Bibby is more of a swithching speeds and sliding type of player. Dude moves better without the ball. I don't see that style with Curry.

oh yea definitely, that's true that's true...at the same time, stockton was better at everything, so you can say curry tries to be like stockton but he can never do that, but its good that he tries because it makes him a better player.
