I think many of us, plus most importantly the Knicks brass loves this kid. Seems to have a nice work ethic to go along with nicely developing skills and size/atheltic ability.

That said, to me, he's a prototypical SF. Yet, we see & hear PF & SG more often. What am I missing? Is it merely the fact that they envision Gallo as the SF of the future?

I think with MikeD as coach, he envisions using Wilson in alot of the same ways he used Shawn Marion at the PF position, they are very similar players (obviously Wilson isn't as good.. yet.)

And yes, I do think they believe Gallo is going to be the SF of the future.

I think they think Chandler is a SG/SF/PF and Gallo is a SG/SF and David Lee is a PF/C and so on... I think this team will become one where the five best players are on the court at the same time, regardless of position, and I doubt any player will be groomed to be specifically a SG or specifically a SF and so on.

More to it is that Gallo as a PF is a failure to this point which D'Antoni didn't hide. Said he wasn't strong enough to play in the post. D'Antoni said Wilson allows him to make up for other player weaknesses. Flat out calling him the team best post defender and then sighing while saying I know how that sounds but it is true.

Long live two way players. The fact that he lead the team in blocks by a lot is just ridiculous. I don't know how some of these guys can sleep at night knowing just how bad they are on the defensive end.

As much as I give D'Antoni grief. He gave a nice honest assessment on MSG of the players last week.

True. Let's just hope he learns to man up down low like Dirk did

The coach said that on MSG, I didn't. Said he wasn't strong enough for the post. Next time read the post.

Saying "he isn't strong enough to play the post" in a 19 year old's rookie season & inclusion of the word failure is a needlessly negative leap.

Read the post. I said at this point playing at the pf has been a failure based on that to this point. To follow up to nyk4ever point about Gallo as the 3 of the future. The GM and coaching staff expected him to take minutes at the 4 and then just become the 4 of the future. Not the 3. If he isn't able to do so at this point, what do you call it a success? There's no negativity being asserted. You don't like the term failure, ok the plan to use him at the 4 has not yet succeeded.

If it makes you happy. Then I said he is a failure. Not sure how else I can explain my meaning. He had a rousing success at the power forward spot and all is well.

They look at their bank accounts and all is well.

Does anybody ever envision Gallo having a back-to-the-basket, dump it down to me and move out the the way ability? Will that ever even be an aspect of his game? He looks like Hedo, so where is our inside presence coming from?

i'm thinking Hedo too... Gallo's game is finesse, he's not a banger down low & he's not a great rebounder either, that's not his game... most he's ever averaged as a pro is 5.6 rebounds a game the year before he was drafted... he's a wing player like a Rashard Lewis, Hedo Turkoglu... i think he'll be a better defender than either of those guys tho.

Orlando's success does say something about the importance, or lack of importance, of having a guy with a classic post-up game. Orlando basically has nobody, including Howard, with back to the basket post-up moves. One of their forwards has the offensive game of a SG- the other, a PG, and their center still looks like he just came out of HS in terms of the sophistication of his inside game.

One question: How do the rules which now allow teams to play more of a zone defense affect offense in the post?

Gallinari is much more comfortable facing the basket, although he has a one or two moves he can go to down low, and Chandler, who should be able to use his spins down low, is inconsistent in the paint. Gallinari has to get stronger, while Chandler has to work on technique. I would love to see both of them, and all the Knicks, learn to use the backboard more when they are down low or within 10 ft. of the basket. It is one of the most forgotten skills in the game, IMO.
