A resigned David Lee for about 5yrs/45million to the NJ Nets for the #11 pick in the draft and Bobby Simmons(1 yr and about 10 mil on his contract).

Now I know that the Knicks CANNOT trade Lee on draft night but what if we pre-arranged something with the Nets before the draft and they make our selection for us. We can then announce the deal at the start of July when RFA can be traded.

The Nets are said to be looking to upgrade at the PF position and I think Lee could compliment Brook Lopez really well and they could be set up front with that duo and guys like josh boone, sean williams, ryan anderson off the bench.

I think getting another lottery pick would be HUGE for our team as we could use it to move up in the draft for Rubio or maybe we could trade down and get multiple picks or just select 2 players that could greatly improve our team (a pg and a bigman would be ideal)

SO what do you guys think? Does it seem plausible?

DOn't think you can do it cause of the Base Year Contract numbers of Lee. Something like he would count as only $3M in salary versus the $10M of Simmons and NJ in not under the cap (I think).

I also forgot to mention that this would keep him in the NYC area and close to a big market which would be appealing to him and thus we could get him to sign off on such a deal

The Knicks and Nets will never do a trade with each other.

The Nets are pretty loaded at the 4/5 with Anderson, Yi ,Boone, Williams, and Lopez. I think if they make a move it will be a big splash either to clear cap space or bring in a star.

Why wouldnt a team just give Lee a fair market offer knowing the Knicks may not match?

It doesn't matter how many times you say it people don't get it. You even got so called journalist suggesting the same thing. No one has time to actually view and know the rules.

Most sign and trades are with max players like Lewis and Joe Johnson I think teams will make a run at Lee if they get him great if not they go another route. If the knicks match they wont get Lee very cheap

The rules are broken daily in all pro sports. Anybody who thinks otherwise is extremely naive.

The question is whether Walsh does it and if you believe so you are the most naive in what you have in this general manager.

Not to mention any deal in this vein would need to be agreed to by Lee. That's a big IF. As it stands, the Knicks and Memphis would have to make their picks, then wait until they can consummate a sign and trade. At that point, guess who has all the leverage? Not the Knicks, not Memphis, but Lee and his agent. Theoretically, both Memphis and New York will have drafted players with the intention of trading them. Memphis would be looking at a potential PG glut problem and a potential wasted number two should Rubio threaten to stay in Europe. The Knicks would be looking at a draft pick that they chose for someone else and Lee would be in control of both teams destinies. Definitely not a good situation being suggested here.

LOL. Ok, point out any point Walsh's long career where he made a deal like that or anyone hinted at him doing that. While you are at it find a trade where he conducted for a sign and trade with draft rights being part of it. Take your time.

Phar, I could care less what he's done in the past. If he comes up across the option here and he feels it will help the team he's going to do it. If he doesn't come across that option then he won't. It's that simple really.

He won't because it's not his nature. The guy he replaced sure. The guy that was in Minny yep. Walsh is a meat and potato guy, reactionary guy. The guy helps comes up with the rules to make sure he breaks them himself? You couldn't point to anything that would even suggest it and now you just cop out to a "he would if he could" answer. You're better than that.

Certainly you can S&T for a draft pick, but it has to be a future draft pick. It happens often. Look at the Curry trade. Or the Kmart trade.

Yeah, you're right. To be more specific. You cannot sign and trade a restricted free agent on draft night.
