![]() Sure, the commercial doesn't make them quit but it certainly has an impact, whether it is minimal or not. They wouldn't make them if they didn't. It's pretty ignorant to try and know how all smokers think. I'm not saying I know what these commercials do for certain but they exist because they are making something happen apparently.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

![]() I never understood the whole campaign against smoking. Is smoking worse for a person's health then people who live next to landfills or is smoking more dangerous then a person who drinks a half of bottle of scotch everyday? I much rather see a campaign that deals with people improving their quality of life period: cleaning up the environment, eating healthy and balanced diets, exercising, etc.
I don't know what kind of effect these ads have because smoking has been completely demonized in every facet of American life. Well at least in NYC area there is almost nowhere in doors that you can smoke other then smoke clubs and private residences. |

![]() Well smoking is pretty bad. That's why there is a warning from the Surgeon General right on the box. You smoke for 20, 30 years, you're likely to get lung, throat, stomach and mouth cancer. You will also get emphysema, among other things. Of course if you drink scotch every day for that long you're also likely to get liver cancer. Shits bad either way.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

![]() I used to smoke--a lot. I think this stuff is over sensationalized, for sure, but I definitely wish i saw this stuff when I was 8 or 9 years old. The only reason I quit was because I went backpacking with my sister who works in public health for a month, so I didn't smoke around her and kind of weened myself off, and when I got back I bought a pack and started to smoke like I did before I left... and I felt my lungs being ripped apart. Been close to a year now, and I can't see myself smoking again. I used to quit and get sucked back in when I got stressed, but the job search has been stressful and I haven't felt the urge to buy a pack

![]() Posted by bitty41: I'm not going to complain about the smoking laws b/c speaking for myself and others I know, it makes for a very unpleasant experience for non smokers to be in a room filled with smoke. In my opinion, it absolutely should be "You want a smoke? Find somewhere else to do that." Not "You hate smoke, go somewhere else." I know just about every smoker disagrees, but it's about being considerate. Other than that, if you wanna become a smoker, that's your problem. Just don't be a prick and smoke when your pregnant or in your kids faces. I do have a problem with that. “Whenever I’m about to do something, I think ‘Would an idiot do that?’ and if they would, I do NOT do that thing.”- Dwight Schrute

![]() The kid is a great actor........I don't see any problem with educating people on the realities of smoking. I don't know if these two ads will have an impact but the campaign to educate people of the dangers of smoking have had a major effect in smoking rates. Especially among teenagers. I have no problem with this.
I just hope that people will like me

![]() What am I, the only smoker here?
I know its bad for me. I know I might die from it. Eh, we all die at some point. At least im happy. And these ads dont do shizzle for me. What you dont think I get enough pressure to quit from my wife? Im not laissaz faire about it, its just my life. Im happy and Ill quit when I want to. Some men see things as they are and ask why. I dream things that never were and ask why not?

![]() Posted by firefly: I applaud your strong will. I think if you have a strong enough brain, you will be okay. It seems like you have a strong brain. But smoking is worse for your kids than it is for you, because the children grow up with a smoker and then you can't run and play catch with them. WE AIN'T NOWHERE WITH THIS BUM CHOKER IN CARMELO. ![]() Posted by orangeblobman:Posted by firefly: I can run and play with my kids. Why would that be a problem? Im in shape. I dont smoke around them and thats that. The only interaction my kids have with my smoking is that I tell them that its dumb thing that daddy does and not to learn from it. I honestly hate the "lets save the world from itself" brigade. Frickin govornment department set up to inform us how much salt we should eat a day. The next thing you know, we will all be eating regulated tablet meals with distilled water, be forced to run at least 5 miles a day and get colonic irrigation on the weekends. I say **** that. As long as your decisions only affect yourself, knock yourself out. And dont give me the BS about a burden on the taxpayer because of health cover. Last year in the UK, smokers cost the NHS £5 billion. They paid £10 billion in taxes on cigarettes. You do the math. I want to smoke, drive a fast car that does 22 mpg and eat steak with lots of fried onions. Deep fried in extra oil. If you dont like those things, dont do 'em. I only get one turn and I intend to enjoy it. Lifes too short. [Edited by - firefly on 06-17-2009 9:23 PM] Some men see things as they are and ask why. I dream things that never were and ask why not?
