and...
Isn't everyone tired of the soft, tender, Knickerbockers? Yes we need size clearly. Its not that simple though. We need nasty, "I'm gonna get you sucka" size.
Think about this team...
PG: Tyreke Evans - I won't compare rookies to legends like others on the forum. I'd like him to come in and be what Ron Harper was in his best Knick days. He's listed at 6'6". You know he's probably 6'3", but he's wide and would be a monster for opposing PG's to guard. He penetrates and gets to the line with ease and that's what we would need him to do. In a spread offense he would just be a beast.
SG: The Mayor - You like this kid's development. If he's at the two he's a great defensive presence. With Tyreke, Ron and Gallo on the floor he would be your fourth scorer and would be a serious plus in that role.
SF: Ron Artest - Making people forget 2010, the local kid, the right local kid comes back a man to save the franchise and gives the Knicks attitude and makes the Garden crowd go crazy for defensive intensity again on a one year deal. He's crazy enough to do it, and on a one year deal the Garden would sign for that. (I hope)
PF: The Rooster - With all of that toughness at the 1,2 and 3 spots, he would be able to play free and easy and do what he does best, which is shoot the lights out and make great setup passes.
Center: #1 - Buy the Pistons top #2 pick (they have two) - get Gani Lawal - 6'10 with a 7'2" wingspan, plays defense and can run - if Lawal's not there, then you still need to do the same thing and take Vornado in the same spot.
#2 - Eddie? if you can get 10 min a game from him, great
#3 - Sims/Sene - between the two, one has to get minutes and be able to fill out the rest of the minutes
Bench: Duhon is a solid backup at the point and can play along side Evans for stretches - give him 25 min a game
Harrington is a great scorer off of the bench and can play PF when the matchup doesn't favor Gallo
Jeffries can fill in at Center against small teams, and play bit minutes otherwise
Hughes will add to the defensive mindset off of the bench. I don't care if he's a volume shooter, he'll just have to not shoot if that's a deal breaker.
A team like this would be brutal for guard oriented teams to play against and would bring attitude back to the Garden in a big way.
Center is going to be a big hole to fill, but it will have to wait for Stoudemire, Bosh or a short term player in 2010. Maybe a trade deadline deal if we're winning in 2009.
This is an aim high plan. LeBron's not coming... I'm coming to terms with that. Might go against some of MikeD's tendencies. Your thoughts...?
Alan Hahn:
Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)
