Knicks' coach Mike D'Antoni is convinced that New York will have a better product on display next season, and according to the New York Daily News he singled out Wilson Chandler and rookie Danilo Gallinari as two players he is "enthused" with, mentioning no other names.

"It would be the greatest thing in the world if we get this turned around," D'Antoni said before closing out the team's season on Wednesday night. "That's why I came here. You guys, the fans are starved for something. That's what makes it exciting. It wasn't going to be easy, and it's not easy. But with a little bit of luck, a little bit of patience and a little bit of hard work we'll get there. It will get done."

"I think we set the (foundation) where we can get better this summer, next summer and we can go upward. ... I have all the faith in the world that the organization, which has a lot of resources, will get better each summer."

I agree, although I have to admit that its a bit sad when I get more excited about my favorite team during the off season than I am while they are actually playing.

Hoping that changes in the coming year

just a quick question: if only 2 people will remain, and one basically didn't play all year, then what foundation was actually set?

This is a rhetorical question, right?

You have to tear the whole thing down before you can set a foundation.

That's what happened with Isiah's team. It eventually sank. Walsh had to sift through the tattered peices of wood, scrap metal and concrete and determine what peices were salvageable. He will then use those pieces as well as fresh pieces he purchases at the store or trades for at the barter market to build a new foundation. Then we can start building the actual house. I just don't think some fans know how far the former house sank and how deep we have to dig to find material worth using.

Chandler, Jeffries, Curry and Q are the only remainders of Isiah's team. The current regime is happy with 3 of those players. So aren't we already pass the point of talking about what is salvageable. That decision was already made. Walsh already put his stamp on this team. Walsh made more moves in his first season than Thomas to get rid of Layden's pieces. This is Walsh's team now. No more harping back to the past like Isiah did with Layden when the team consisted of mostly his players. If Walsh brings back Lee or Nate that is now his choice, not Isiah. Excuses have to end along with free passes.

Pharze we aren't talking about years 2,3 and 4. We were talking about year 1. Year one Walsh had to sift through Isiah's scraps in order to build his team as much as Isiah had to sift through Layden's. Isiah got a pass in year 1 from pretty much everyone on the board(except Isles), just like Walsh gets a pass for his year one. After that of course the situation changes. This year, he did not have to show significant progress because he was in tear down and evaluate mode. But things change incrementally with each coming year, and in that case you are correct, Isiah is irrelevant. But in the context of building a foundation for this year, it was very much about Isiah's team.

What is going to be shaken up?
We have a plan in place: Shed salary for the 2010 offseason.
We've largely done that and outside of Jeffries and Curry the majority of the roster is made up of players whose sole purpose for being here next season is to expire after next season.
Then we have Lee and Nate contract decisions.
Then we have Chandler, Gallo, and NBDL tryouts.

What exactly is there to be shaken up? Unless there is a star player to be had with expirings, of which we hold roughly 50M worth, I don't see where this great overhaul is coming from.

Does anyone see a Celtic-esque summer unfolding? Where Lee, Nate, Chandler, our 09 pick, and 50M of expirings are turned into an entirely new team comprised of at least three star players?

I'd like to think that scenario has less than 1% chance of happening and that we are going to simply plug along and suffer through a second consecutive bad season while we wait for the summer of 2010.

I have no problem enduring another 30 win season in 09/10 knowing full well that it's sole purpose is to finish the tearing down of Isiah's roster and give us a clean slate with endless options to pursue in the summer of 2010.

These player were not acquired to be the foundation of a winning team. These players were required as a step in the direction of ridding the Knicks of Isiah's players and the contracts they commanded.

We have:

Curry/Jeffries - both 2011s - both being shopped.
Lee/Nate - contract decisions.
Chandler/Gallo/09 pick - a small youthful trio who are auditioning for the future.
The rest: 2010 expirings all here to do one thing: EXPIRE in 2010.

The Knick situation is as simple to understand as any. Why some have such trouble understanding the game plan that the Knick FO has laid out is quite confusing.
