From NY Post:

On Sunday in Toronto, D'Antoni said nobody is safe for next season. Last night he gave a strong indication of the three players he would like to build around. The obvious two are second-year stud Wilson Chandler and prized rookie Danilo Gallinari. But D'Antoni also gave a giant hint restricted free agent David Lee is in the plans, despite restricted free agency. Unless Lee gets a whopping offer, the Knicks will retain him.

When asked about the upcoming draft, D'Antoni referenced building around those three, meaning they won't have to draft by positional need.

"We want to take the best player," D'Antoni said. "On our team it's pretty easy to take the best player. The good thing about Wilson Chandler, Gallo and David Lee, they play a lot of positions. We have a lot of flexibility."
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Love the Post, hint at MDA giving a hint about Lee but make no real reference other than that. LOL.

yeah, but i think reading between the lines, there's a pretty clear indication that D'Antoni considers DLee part of the long-term plans. and not Nate.

With the exception of Nate, pretty much this is common sense.

Who else is in the long term plans? Curry? Jefferies? Q? Duhon?

I just had a thought - what if D'Antoni is playing Lee out of position and not providing help defense in order to expose him and keep his value at an affordable level?

Helps us keep Lee and get a higher lotto pick at the same time.

Quite the conspiracy theory. Maybe I need another coffee.

Exactly who else was going to play center?

Yeah, who could there possibly be on the team that would make David Lee look like a more respectable defensive big man? NOBODY. lol

We can use those three guys and say they are our core. That's fine and I'm rolling with that. However, we HAVE to get another big man. If that means drafting Thabeet, fine.

However, if it's true that other teams want to give up their lotto picks, then I think we have to take advantage of that in however way we can.

When did he discover that Gallinari can play multiple positions and what evidence did he see to indicate this?

You have to draft a Cole Aldrich and then if you sign Bosh you have Lee, Bosh, and Aldrich as a inside rotation.

All three are awesome-character guys and it can never hurt to have those around. In this case, the players at hand are also very talented and each has lots to contribute. Plus, their youth is great because they're not even close to topping out-- not even Lee. This team isn't far away from being a serious competitor.

not quite sure how D Lee fits the mold of a player that plays multiple positions... he's not a real C & anyone can tell u that... he's a PF, that's it.

hell Fishlips is probably 1 of the more diverse players on this team positions wise but who wants to build around that POS?

the thing about fishlips is that, at least it seems, he tries so hard, man. and he looks good, sometimes, when he goes to the hoop. I have just never seen someone suck so bad, but be so damn close to not-sucking. Quite a niche he's carved out in this league. Thanks Isiah. But in all seriousness, I will pray for him after his contract is up, because I don't know if he will 'play' basketball again.

i agree, but that just goes to speak to the diversity of our other players... really we only have 4 players that u can qualify as "multiple position guys", & they are Wilson, Gallo, Fishlips & Q Rich... Wilcox & Lee are PF's, not C's... Nate is an undersized SG, not a PG... Hughes is a SG, not really a PG... Curry is a fat tub of lard, not an NBA player.

Even Gallo, I would say is a SF. Where else would you play him? He doesn't body up enough to play PF.
As for Lee, he may not be a prototypical C, but he's been doing it all year, so you can't really dispute it...

i think Gallo can play some SG in a pinch, he's got the perimeter J & his on ball D isn't as horrible as some other guys on this team... he could probably manage some PF too on a team w/a bruising type C in the middle... but i guess he's in the same boat as Lee cuz really he'd be playing out of position in both cases.
