We could've easily had Anthony Morrow on the team--and this is what scares me going forward. Who actually picked a smallish nothing G over a 6-5 22 YO who had superior skills in almost every category? Someone from Knicks management made a judgment on Roberson based ONLY on his jumpshot--forgetting the rest of the game of basketball. Same thing with Gallo--from what I have seen so far is they are fixated on the three point line and have neglected very important parts of basketball.
I'm really scared who is picking from the menu in terms of the up coming draft. It seems as if you cant shoot it from 30 feet--you wont be a Knick. We should put more focus on defense and rebounding--and getting higher % shots. To do this we need more athletic ability more size and a PG who can break people off the dribble. We have more than enough 3 point shooting.

We EASILY couldve had Morrow over Roberson and the pick kind of scares me.

legit point. Roberson was an embarrassment, while Marrow has crazy potential.

Briggs- wrong to say we could have had Morrow over Roberson. Correct on what might be a major problem with MDA.

I love him, and I loved his Phoenix teams. But before he came here, he said he was open to running the system that made the most sense for the talent on the team.

However, he seems to have only one way to play, and that is small ball with the court stretched out.

I don't mind the system, but when the system dictates you take or don't take people, then there is a problem.

I'd rather go back to the Lopez vs. Gallo debate, and whether Walsh & D'Antoni ever really thought about Lopez.

20/20 is hindsight, but if you are a pro GM, you should be able to see potential in a player.

While we had Curry as a 5- clearly we also had some SFs & PFs on the squad.


MDA have this summer and next season. After that, its fair to make a judgement about whether they can win anything here.

Ill stick to it and say I think that Anthony Randolph wouldve been a perfect fit for this system WITHOUT having to shoot 3s from the 4-5 slot--even more so than Lopez. Maybe MDA forgets just how good Shawn Marion and Amare Stoudemire are--he had both of them in their prime. How is Gallo comparable to a Shawn Marion 4? Isnt Anthony Randolph much more comparable?

Why couldnt we have had Morrow--he wasnt drafted and when you are in the SL--you are open play for any team. We were in need of a SG back up and w e picked a 5-11 SG who only shoots 3's

Thats not how Pheonix was built. They were built on great athletic ability and put it together with the PG. The thing is BC was the guy who put the pieces together--and now I think MDA has much to much say in personnel. He should have say but ultimately coach the players he has.

The commitment to Roberson was bizarre. Walsh traded for Ew jr. and he had a great preseason. Neither of those guys was going to make a difference in the teams wins for the year. The guy that has the last spot on the bench should be a potential guy who might develop. Roberson wasn't that guy. He is the marginal guy who has a decent three point shot. However, teams can recover from mistakes they make with the final spot on their roster. I don't think the Knicks will recover from the mistake they made with the 6 pick in one of the deepest drafts in the history of the NBA. Gallo's ceiling in my opinion is the fifteenth best player in this draft and I don't think he will come close to that. I hope he does but the talent that was passed up was exceptional. The talent in the 08 draft was exceptional. I have no confidence that the organization will make a good pick in 09 draft. As you said the focus seems to be on guys that might fit the system versus guys that fill holes in the roster. Unfortunately the Knicks have already bypassed players that could be cornerstones for the next ten years with this philsophy.

Also notice---since Gentry was hired---Steve Nash is probably playing the best ball of his career--he's playing better than his MVP years since the hire. I thought it was Mike D that made Steve nash so good or maybe Steve Nash is just great with any coach who lets him be him?

I think the focus of this thread should be the mistakes the current management/coaching staff has made with the roster specifically with the last roster spot and with the draft disaster. I have strong opinions on D' but the original point, how the roster is being assembled, should be the focus. Start a thread on D' and the Suns/Knicks and I will be glad to share my opinions. However, the biggest mistake the organization has made is to try and get players that fit the 'system' versus the most talented players at need positions.

The system both coaches run allows Steve Nash to excel because both coaches let Nash play to his strengths. I think Nash looked only pretty good in Dallas because his job was to get the ball to Dirk in a more traditional set. Both those coaches seemingly were the only ones who were comfortable enough to base the team around the PG position. I mean, this isn't the best example, but we saw it here with Marbury... the team was best (39 wins) when the Knicks surrounded him with pick-and-pop players. In Nash's case, the coaches and management surrounded him with athletic enough players to maximize Nash's talents

This pisses me off... the Knicks need help at every position, yet it's always about "D;Antoni's system." Bunch of BS. Maximize the talent first, then worry about maximizing the system

Hey BRIGGS, I have to ask you, Randolph's talent is pretty undeniable... but what are your thoughts about his emotional breakdowns on the bench? Whenever he gets yanked it looks like he'll have a nervous breakdown or try to take his life in the hotel room after the game

He's 19 and high strung which probably swings his emotions. They made a mistake not playing him 35 minutes all year long--they are starting to realize it. This kid is an NBA mega superstar in the making.

Remember how KG teammates made fun of him his rookie year because he was so emotional about playing. Laettner would ridicule him about it. Now the league promotes it as heart. Go figure.

Wow man. Genius post. We could have had Morrow. So could 28 other NBA teams. Guess what? They didn't sign him either. Guess what else? All teams have their own scrubs. No roster has all great/good/decent players on it 1 through 15. Oh and please guess one more thing? Stop discussing Gallinari and Randolph until Gallinari plays a healthy NBA season. Thanks.

Briggs throws out about 1000 of these meaningless posts.... If this were gallanari playing and randolph hurt he would tell us, how these meaningless games are pretty much garbage time and we need to wait until gallo does it when it counts.. LOL.. typical briggs, agenda driven BS..... If Randolph is headed to mega stardom, then the bulls with rose, the heat with beasley and the grizz with mayo all made Huge mistakes.. Unless all of those guys are headed to HOF careers as well....

It's not a ball breaking on Gallinari--he just doesnt have nearly the all-around abilities of Randolph--back problems or not. Gallinari could never play defense could never rebound block shots run jump dribble--anything other than jumpshooting Randolph is just flat out better at.

We took an inferior player because he was a better 3 point shooter--the whole point of the thread.
