This was posted on the realgm forum. There isn't a link. Can anyone confirm this? He put up great numbers in the DL.

He is a FA since the Suns didn't sign him after his 2nd 10 day. I'm not sure when Samb's 2nd 10 day is expiring, but it might be soon.

Very interesting...

Sims was a good college player at Michigan who unfortunately never had anyone around him. He's definitely an agile big man who can get up and down the floor and seemingly would fit in pretty well here in this offense. He's very good around in the post area and has a pretty decent shot.

I think the most important thing about Courtney is that he's averaging 2 blocks a game in the D-League which is important because Sims isn't noted for his defense and that has been the thing that probably held him back from sticking in the NBA. If he has actually committed himself to being playing D, this could end up being an absolute steal.

What's the point if he doesn't play? Samb and Nichols have been here for almost 3 weeks and played 2 games in garbage time. Q still plays 25+ MPG and Jeffries still gets time. Makes no sense to me.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Didn't we say that about that Randolph Morris kid from Kentucky?

He had two ten days in Phoenix but they have Shaq and Robin there. I was able to see Robin live this preseason and while he isn't as good as his brother he could start for alot of teams.

The idea is for MDA to get a great look at these kids in practice in his system. This is far more of a look than you would otherwise get. I say bring'em in and see if you might catch a break. This idea of searching for talent on the cheap with young guys is a smart tactic. If we end up with a useful player that doesn't hurt the cap then it's all good.

We signed Starks and Mason from the aba. Sometimes you get lucky. But we can't expect anything from this - if it does even happen.

With the numbers he's putting up in the D League there has to be something wrong with him that he is not on someone's roster
I just hope that people will like me

you're right though....there was some game footage on the nbdl website but i can't find it.....he looked a little retarded. Like weak....but the mofo won co-mvp in the nbdl all-star game. Funny I was youtubing him and even though he won co-mvp...there's only a highlight of him recieving a pass on a pick and roll for a dunk and a pass he made from the top of the key for a inside score.

Well...at least he can do that...pass and finish on the pick and roll. The Pheonix affiliate down in the nbdl actually runs a D'antoni like offense. I dunno if that changed since Terry Porter had taken over but they were doing that.

Anyway...Samb was raw we all knew that. D'antoni wants players that can already play. Which is understandable....theres room to groom but not really room to completely teach a guy how to play basketball. Courney Sims is an already made player. His numbers in the NBDL have been superb. Who knows how that translates to the NBA but the Knicks need him to make a name for himself ASAP!!!

If the dude is gonna make it he might as well do it now!!! Here's rooting for this guy.

Who knows if the numbers mean anything, but it would seem that they liked something about Sims. I'm sure they talked to his coaches and got some film. As I said before, this is about seeing how well the kid adjusts and fits into this system. Even for a short look you can kind of see if the skills and instincts are a match for this system or not. I'm glad they're doing this. We've actually had some luck with guys in the minors, tho we haven't kept them. Guys like Udoka and Barnes have proven to be solid role players.

When your trying to add talent on the cheap, you need to exhaust every option. Who wouldn't be happy to find a gem in this manner? Keep that cap flexibility and improve the team going forward.

There's nothing to lose at this point in the season. I hope the guy gets a chance to show what he can do. That's all he can ask.

Strange that Nichols isn't playing when there are no shooters on the floor at times.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

losing the games against the nets/sac/orl and losing key players in a playoff run is strange...sucks to be rooting hard for a team that seems to be giving up and breaking down at the same time.

Sims is a pretty unique prospect as far as the D-League is concerned. He has great size, nice length and a decent (although certainly improvable) frame, to go along with solid athleticism. His hands are very good and his touch is absolutely terrific, making him an excellent presence in the post at this level of competition. Right off the bat he showed a very good feel for the game, making some heady post-entry passes on high/low plays.

What really separates him from other D-League big men is his ability to create his own shot. He can put the ball on the floor and has very nice footwork and wherewithal in the post, executing pivot moves and spinning to either shoulder to get his shot off. He lacks strength finishing around the rim or trying to back down his man while grinding in the post, but the skill-level of his finesse moves allow him to create high percentage opportunities on a regular basis when he’s getting touches. He also showed the ability to step out to mid-range and knock down 18 foot jumpers, again showing great touch, which is certainly reflected in his free throw stroke—at over 75% on the season. He gets to the line at a great rate (his ability to attack defenses off the dribble plays a huge role here), which is a big reason why he’s been scoring at such a nice rate this season.

Defensively, Sims still has plenty of room for improvement, as he gave up position far too easily in the paint and also did a poor job for the most part rotating to meet slashers in the paint. He has the length to contest shots, but does not have very good awareness on this end of the floor, probably lacking some toughness as well as strength. Considering what his role would be in the NBA, this is definitely an issue if he’s to see quality minutes as a rotation player. He seems to lose his focus quite easily, especially when a bad call goes against him—leading him to completely lose his composure.
