Allanfan...Melo is going to go down as one of the best players ever. He just needs to get in the right system.
Only person on that list that may be better than Melo is King. Everybody else on that list did not have the skills of Melo.
There is nothing on the court Melo can't do.
How does it have Marbury written all over it?
Was Marbury ever a top 5 player in the league?
After Kobe, Lebron and Wade...Melo is next.
Sorry bro..we have to agree to disagree.
Joka, you make good points, but let me make a couple of arguements:
You're contradicting yourself in one area. You said there's nothing on the court Melo can't do and you said he's a top 5 player. However, you also said he needs to be in the right system.
Don't you think that a top 5 player in the NBA and someone who can do anything on the court can play in any system at any given point, no matter what the circumstances are?
And believe it or not, that's why I compared him to Marbury. Marbury could do anything if he tried or put his head into it. Shoot, drive, finish, hit the 3, hit the mid range and free throw, defend quicker guards (Although that's where he struggles the most) yet he can also defender the power guards. He can pass. Heck, I've even seen him post up and do well at it. He can do anything. It's the same with Melo. He can do any of that. However, the problem is, if he actually did all of that consistently, don't you think Denver would have at least been in the finals already, with the talent they've had?
And I'm not here to bash Melo. I like him. He's a heck of a player and he very well can be great if he does all of those things consistently. However, while he may have the talent as all of those great Knicks, he's not as good as them b/c they took their games to the limit and then pushed the limits and became leaders in the process. They could all carry their teams at a given point and they could have done that without scoring. They could do it on both ends and they did. They had the talent to go along with it.
If Melo can lead and if he can max out, then we can start talking about him being better than those guys. But while he's got the talent, he's not even close to those guys yet. He hasn't even led his team out of the first round of the playoffs, I believe (With very good talent surrounding him).
Lets see him do that and lets see how he can go head to head with Kobe and Tim Duncan in the playoffs. He keeps getting beat but hopefully he can win.
I'm just saying don't build the franchise around him until he shows he can win.
