What are the general feelings out there about trying to sign and trade Lee and / or Nate in some type of bigger deal where Bosh would end up in New York in exchange for Lee and / or Nate, a bigger expiring contract, and whatever else. I'm sure the Knicks would need to get back someone other than Bosh in the deal to make the numbers work.

Regardless, its obvious that Bosh is unhappy in Toronto and will not likely resign in 2010. If the Raptors understand that, they might be willing to make a deal if the Knicks can bring a legitimate deal to the table. With all the talk of superstars looking to resign because of a potentially reduced salary cap or new CBA, the Knicks need to think about ways to use their expiring contracts to bring in some players via trade. Plus, acquiring one major player before 2010 would substantially increase the likelihood of attracting another (possibly LeBron) when 2010 actually comes around.

Am I the only one thinking that this might be a good idea? Anyone have any ideas as to how that might all go down?
I have confidence in Walsh to pull something off over the summer with a big trade and to make a solid draft pick.

I think Bosh is the wrong player to target for us. I've never really been impressed. How good is he if his team is worse than the Knicks?

I know he's had some injury issues, but that's another reason not to sign him to a long term deal.

If he has a deal under the table with LeBron already, then I guess you have to try.

I'd rather see us trade for picks and then just try to add LeBron next year.

Imagine if we add a serious PG and a serious shotblocker in the draft, like a combination of Jennings/Maynor and Jordan/Sanders/Patterson.

you go through 09 developing a roster of;
Maynor
Chandler
Gallo
Al
Jordan

Then you add Lebron and subtract Al in 2010.

That team would be at least similar to his Cleveland team.

I like the idea of adding more picks this summer and trying to develop a young core, especially if it can help the team fill in the glaring holes at PG and C. Im just thinking that Bosh would be a good veteran to solidify a young line up and potentially attract reinforcements the year after. I just remember him stepping it up in the Olympics (which I'll admit is a different game than the NBA) and taking his game to the next level.

But if the knicks could pull a trade where they would move up the draft order to get a shot at a potential difference maker, then I'm not sure what you work out. Regardless, I want to see something happen

i also think Donnie's holding onto his hand until a blockbuster deal comes along... he's not gonna fold over fear of not being able to attract a bigstar to NY in 2010... he's got a plan & he's stuck to it ever since he got here, i have no reason to think he's giving up on that plan now... he's made several comments that he would only be willing to sacrifice the cap space in 2010 plan for a select few NBA players, & i have to believe that Chris Bosh is 1 of those players... if a deal comes up where the Raps are looking to deal him for whatever the Knicks have to offer, then there's no way he'd pass up that chance, i don't care what anyone says.

I saw something here a few days ago about Carmelo Anthony. I don't know that Denver makes him available, but if we could build on those guys to get Melo that would be the kind of deal that would make a difference here.

Would they take on an expiring like Al Harrington + Lee/Nate? I think they'd be in relatively good shape as far as contending- that's a decent amount of offensive firepower coming back to them.

On our end, if we could still have the space to add another big FA. We'd need to probably draft big in this scenario

^^^ Thats the obvious answer. We should target Melo and give our best efforts to get him in orange and blue. I'd give up anything on this roster, in virtually any combination to land him.

I think we should definitely be targeting Melo. If somehow LeBron is available in the summer of 2010 then we can make the necessary moves to drop salary but when a guy like Melo is available, you have to ante up.

i wouldn't give up what it would likely take to get Melo personally... IMHO u can't center ur team around Melo & be a viable championship contending team... u need someone who can play on both sides of the ball like a Kobe, Lebron, Wade, Dwight, CP3, KG, Duncan, Shaq in his younger days, etc... i'd sooner trade assets to go after Bosh than to get Melo, because Bosh brings shotblocking to the table as well as a low post scoring presence... even adding Marcus Camby, 1 of the best defensive bigmen in the game to the Nuggets wasn't enough to compensate for Melo's apparent complete lack of interest in playing any defense whatsoever... that has to be a concern if you're trying to build something more than just a playoff also-ran roster.

Man if we got Melo on the Knicks and filled the rest of the roster with UK posters, we'd probably make the playoffs. Put any sort of decent talent around him, and its a 45-50 win team. He's that good.

If we land him, we can ditch the 2010 talk --- which is filled with question marks --- and go about retooling the roster through trades and picks. We could actually trade those expirings, rather than letting them walk off the books in the hopes that we can grab Lebron or Wade.

We'll see. Getting Melo could be a fortune-reverser...thats for sure.

the only played better in the 2010 class than Melo is Lebron because Wade has said he's not coming here.

I would MUCH rather have Lebron or Anthony + Lee and Nate then Lebron or Anthony and Bosh.

Wade's a fool if he said that --- if for nothing more than bargaining power.

I'd be tough for us to land either Melo/Lebron and keep both Lee and Nate, but I know what you're saying. It seems like Bosh's stock has dropped considerably this year. I'm not ready nor convinced we should back up the Brinks truck for him, either.

i'd much rather have the latter personally... anyway, how would u have the cap space to sign Lebron while still having Lee & Nate on the books longterm? is there a team out there that's gonna just take Curry & Jefferies off our hands for expirings that u got in mind? & if we trade for Melo that means we're likely going to have to give up Lee & Nate in the process.

i still like my original plan:

- sign & trade D Lee for an expiring & a top 8 lottery pick
- take Jordan Hill & Demar Derozan w/our 2 lottery picks
- buy an extra late 1st rounder or early 2nd rounder & draft a defensive G (Darren Collison)
- trade Q Rich's expiring, cash & DEN's 2nd rounder for Marcus Camby
- start Nate at PG & showcase him for a possible trade deadline deal next season

C - Camby / Fishlips / Curry
PF - Harrington / Hill
SF - Chandler / Gallo
SG - Hughes / Derozan
PG - Nate / Duhon / Collison
(slot in the expiring contract gotten in the D Lee trade whereever he fits)

IMO that team will win be a lot better than this year's team because of the added 2 shotblocking presences down low while not suffering at all on the offensive or rebounding end, & it will be keeping the 2010 plan well w/in sight... that team would also be rich in young talent to make possible deals with in case some team approaches us w/an offer for someone Donnie might covet.

by the end of the season if Hill & Derozan pan out u can have a fine young 1-2 tandem to build around along w/the cap space to sign another max FA to match them up with, not to mention Gallo & Chandler.

The right deal wont come along he will be part of the rebuilding of the Knicks there is still about 7 guys they need to get rid of

no way we're getting Camby for a #2 pick and Q
trading a #2 and Q without taking salary back is going to get you a ham sandwich

Honestly, all this team needs a better starting pg and a competent center. If we can add those two things, I would make a run with the guys we have. Assuming CHandler, Nate, DG, and Lee continue to improve and Hughes can continue to find his shot, this team is not bad. You add a defensive center to give us a line of defense, move Lee back to PF, and add a top-flight pg and this team would be as talented as the Suns teams over the past 6 years. We will probably need to do a S/T with Lee or Nate to get the pg or center. I think Lee is more replaceable than Nate but they are both good players that we should not give away without getting something solid in return.
