I think Ira brought this guys name up and the more I watch him--the more he might make a lot of sense for us. I thought he would be picked pretty high but I had my doubts that Dantoni would like him. When you see a burly C the first thing that comes to mind is that our coach would say no. But how can we look at his results as a sophomore on a fast-paced team and deny that this kid is a player. That game the other night really cemented in my mind--I'm sure with a few others just how desperate we are for a guy who can play some pretty good 5 in this league. Maybe this guy cant jump out of the building but he's much more advanced in terms of skills[really he has all of them] he's a big kid who has a pretty diverse set of offensive skills and that Kendrick Perkins type body with big shoulders and long arms that is great for rebounding and will help him block a few shots. He's scores the ball pretty easily and would look good next to David Lee. I see this kid coming in and being able to help right away--he already has the skills. It does show you just how fast a good player can go from A-B in terms of results with more PT. On first impression he kind of looks like a slightly better version of Jake Voshkul--but the more that you watch him--he's a pretty skilled player for his size.
Here is some game tape against Washington and I think that you can pick up what Im saying

I think if they passed on Speights without a second thought in the last draft, I don't see how they would take a player similar to his skillset and less the talent IMHO in this year's draft.

I saw him play against Jordan Hill early this season--I watched the whole game and quite frankly the kid didnt look half as good as Hill. I don't watch Kansas play every game and that didnt leave me with a great impression--that's kind of where I thought he was a Jake Voshkul with a little more skill. I didnt see him again until the last two games and he really looks like a guy who has really found his game--he's seems like he is going to be a great rebounder and can play a good NBA 5. He's not the second coming of Patrick Ewing but can he can be a solid piece and help the team right away with the chance to develop as he plays. He's not a reach at 8-10 he's a lottery player. I mean as fans I don't know about you guys but I just cant accept what i saw the other night and throughout the season. I mean we've got a hole a mile wide in the middle on this team and even if I think another player might be a superior talent down the line--how can we take another project guy? Greg Monroe--to me he's not a C--this kids a C.

Yes - this kid is a very solid and skilled big man. I think he has some diverse offensive skills and is someone who can play out of the low post but also pop out to 15 feet on occasion. He's a very intelligent player and makes up for an overall lack of athleticism with great instincts (typically not seen in big guys). He seems to be in the right spot on defense and contests a # of weak side shots. I also notice he has a knack for finding slots to allow his guards to get him the ball off penetration.

I like him -- probably the type of pick-up the board would be less than enthused about but in the long run would turn out good for the team.

One issue would be putting him with Lee & Gallo -- together those 3 may not be able to hang with the NBA athletes - at least at the defensive end.

I still think that in this year's draft the KNicks take a PG. The team needs one, and there are a lot of good point prospects in the draft, unlike every other position

I don't like this dude as a pro. He has a funky shot that's going to get blocked a ton at the next level.

No thanks.

It's really looking like Calathes is going to be the ideal fit.

Why? Because he's a white PG? That doesn't work every time you know.

No, I don't get caught up in the black and white thing. I see a very good player with very good passing skills, shooting skills and all around talent that puts up numbers. He has height at 6'6'' and that kind of helps if he ends up starting with Nate in the backcourt. Have you seen him play he is very skilled player.

Honestly, I like Stephen Curry a lot for this team. Great shot, big moments... what this team needs, even in spite of Curry's flaws

I was talking about our draft positions v. available players.

I know you have a raging boner for Jennings, I'd love him too-- but I dont know if it's realistic. I guess we won't know until the draft order is sorted.

Exactly draft position is very important. I personally would take Mullen with first pick the Knicks need a big man. I know Calathes if he enter the draft will be there in the lower first round and possibly second round.

I'm half joking. Calathes looks good. I like his size as well. I'd be happy if we drafted one combo guard and one PG. We're super thin in the back court especially if we let Nate leave.

Jennings does give me a funny feeling in my shorts. We need somebody to take the reins on this team, own it, and then we'll be able to take some steps forward. I think Jennings, Warren, Evans, those are the types of players that can do it.

I love all the intangibles with Calathes and I love his skills -- very high.

That said -- after watching him 3-4 times I am a bit worried about his ability to get into the paint consistently.

Now - Duhon is no super quick guard and we do utilize the high screen to free our guards up better than any team in the league so that could help a guy like Calathes out.

He would be an outstanding character and competitor add --- I just hope his athleticism is able to handle the point in the NBA because he's not going to be able to play the 2-guard spot.

If Walsh takes Calathes that tells me D'Antoni is sky high on the kid and I will be thrilled. If we pass - it will mean they like someone else better and I'll be ok with that.

It doesn't impress me if Walsh likes somebody. What's his draft record? Not outstanding.

Thanks, Briggs. We're not talking about a star, but a guy with a good all around game. He's a very good rebounder, he's a good shot blocker and an effective inside scorer with a decent jump shot for a big guy. We're not talking about the next Patrick Ewing with Aldrich. What he makes me think of is a bigger David Lee with defense.

He's as fast as Dave? We can't have a plodder on this team. He's not that much bigger than what we have already either.

I think Lee's a little faster, but Aldrich is a quicker - particularly on the defensive end. He's not that big, but his timing on defense gives him an edge. Hey, when you pick around 9 or 10, you're lucky to get a center who can score, rebound and block shots. Thabeet would be the obvious choice if he's there, but what are the chances of that happening?
