Now it's a little exciting, though all but one are guards:
CROWDED HOUSE: Quincy Douby will have plenty of company when he works out for the Knicks Monday. A group of players from the D-League will also try out, including former Knicks second-round pick Demetris Nichols. D-League slam dunk champion James White, Joe Crawford, Dontell Jefferson and Chris Hunter are also expected to participate.http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/knicks/2009/02/21/2009-02-21_so_many_knicks_so_few_minutes-1.html Nichols: 18.9 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 1.6 apg, eff +15 http://www.nba.com/dleague/playerfile/index.jsp?player=demetris_nichols White: 25.6, 5.10, 2.4, +23 http://www.nba.com/dleague/playerfile/index.jsp?player=james_white Crawford: 21.7, 4.6, 2.7, +17 http://www.nba.com/dleague/playerfile/index.jsp?player=joe_crawford Jefferson: 18.1, 4.7, 5.7, +18 http://www.nba.com/dleague/playerfile/index.jsp?player=dontell_jefferson Hunter: 18.1, 9.7, .7, +21, 1.2 Bpg (Forward/center - 6'11") http://www.nba.com/dleague/playerfile/index.jsp?player=chris_hunter Any comments from guys you have seen play? I liked Nichols for this system, though he did jack in Chicago. No Ewing Jr. so I think he is sort of a done deal, especially once Marbury is bought out. Two Guys
Nichols: No. That ship has sailed and I don't like the outburst against the coach. No thank you. White: Yes. The reunion of the two national HS slam dunk finalists with David Lee. Pre game warmups just got more entertaining with Nate egging him on. Crawford: Nope. Knicks already had another guard named Crawford. Jefferson: No. Dontell? Nah. Hunter: Big Yes. You can't teach height and 6'11 is still 6'11. once a knick always a knick

Posted by misterearl: Hunter hasn't done much in the ncaa's but I'd like to know what the team sees in him. Never was much of a blocker or scorer. http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Chris-Hunter-5574/stats/ I'm intrigued by how White might play in this system. I'm not sure about his shot, I think he is attacking the rim more. He hit 38% from three, so he can shoot a little. He's had 11 30+ point games in the last two months plus a 47 The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. I'm all for anyone, but why not look for someone like Will Conroy. As far as i know he is not controlled by some other NBA team and he is absolutely tearing up the NBDL. He was Nate and Brandon Roy's old teammate and a very good PG in college.

Interesting stuff about James White.
5-year college player (Cincinnati) World Class athlete (competed in NCAA high jump & Triple Jump) Won a title in his rookie year, averaging 8.3ppg with the San Antonio Spurs in 22mpg (albeit over 6 games late in the season while the starters rested). Left and went to play in Turkey - won a title with his team there too. Drafted 25th in the D-league this year - averaging 25+ppg (2nd in the D-league), with a 55% FG and 40% 3pt %. http://www.draftexpress.com/article/James-White-Knocking-on-the-NBAs-Door-Again-3106/ If you isolate all of the off-the-court stuff, he sounds like a winner to me. Of course, we haven't seen any other NBA teams jump on him yet either... However... we've had luck before with these unsung minor league players before (Starks & Mason... and heck, you could technically throw in Chris Childs too). I don't see why Nichols cannot stick in the league. The dude is a big time scorer who also can play decent defense. If he had simply taken his butt to Europe for 1 or 2 years, he would probably be on our team right now.
White looks like someone to consider. Dude has talent, but I question his jumpshot. Douby is a real talent and I am suprised he did not stick. If his workouts are good, I think you will probably have to go with him because he has proven he can play in this league. We also should look at Hunter. We need someone on this team that is taller than 6'10" and able to block a shot. My picks for the two spots would be White (as someone with the most upside) and Hunter. Douby is a guy that needs to be a scorer. He isn't a PG and has never had the handle or instinct to be one. He really has the instinct to put the ball in the ocean and can get insanely hot shooting the ball. He should be everything Roberson was supposed to be. My concern is that his frame is still so thin- he may never be able to get around screens or jab step to really get open in this league. He gets another shot, but we'll see if he's an NBA player.
Nichols IMO has an NBA game. I still think he should be a Knick. |

If Hughes is going to jack up shots instead of driving the ball, I'd rather have Nichols filling his minutes. He can shoot it, has a post fadeaway, and can play defense.
He's Chandler with less driving skills and better shooting. No idea why he can't stick. He stutters, so if he yelled at his coach, that must have been interesting. Alan Hahn:
Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Posted by tkf: Also, he is 26... But, perhaps he is starting to see (at 26) what it takes to be a better player and stick with a team. He is scoring an aweful lot and supposedly can get his shot off with no problem and create (like Nate). It would be a coincidence (with like how we got Starks at the right time and from nowhere) to pick him up just as he is seeing and doing what it takes. How do you (or anyone) describe his numbers this year? It is not off drives, he is scoring from all over with his speed to get open. Taken that into consideration: 26 ppg, 5rpg, 2assists. 55% FG! 38% 3p% (not that bad), 3TO, 3PF and it is said he is a lock down defender with his desire and athleticism. 41mpg, 6'7" and 200lbs. SG anyone? Stranger things (e.g. Starks) have happened. Sometimes the miraculous goes unnoticed The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. I don't know much about these players. I liked Nichols when we drafted him. He's not a great athlete, but can shoot and play d. If James White is really a lock down defender, in addition to being so good a scorer, he may be the guy.
