To add, Dolan has NOT bothered Walsh on the topic - SAS said a Knick official begged him to echo this on the air.

What's the point of buying him out now. We have nothing to gain. We don't need his roster spot. We'd barely save any money and let some other team get him for free.

Don't do it. It's not really in our interest.

I'll echo that and add: EFF STEPHON MARBURY

Nothing to lose either.

I don't care if they send him hope after the meeting on the 24th awaiting the summer to do what he wants to do when expired.

Yet, if it's a positive meeting on the 24th, which was set up to discuss the 400K fine from earlier in the year, maybe you see it get done now that the trade deadline is done and Walsh couldn't get any offer for Marbury's expiring deal.

Walsh isn't vindictive, he's a businessman, so you'd be more likely to see a business decision made before an emotional one. If Marbury gives back he's going to go free. If not or not enough then Walsh will consider it not worthwhile and send him home.

With the two open roster spots there is no reason to buyout Steph unless he gives a considerable amount back to the Knicks. I really don't want to see Steph playing for a championship with the Celtics. I hope Walsh doesn't let Steph walk without at least giving back 3-4 million.

There's plenty to lose- Marbury could sign with Boston and play us rd.1. He may not make any big difference but its a PR disaster. We don't have any reason to do this now. Let him sit out his contract and let bygones be bygones. We don't need his roster spot anymore.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Either way, it really doesn't matter at this point.

That's exactly it. We don't owe Marbury anything and we don't owe any team that he might sign with anything.

honestly, if Walsh is trying to make the playoffs this season, why let Marbury go to Boston? so he clown it up if we play them in the first round? no thank you. we don't owe Marbury any favors.

Don't buy him out now. He will sign with Boston and burn us.

I think the circus factor may way in to the decision. If you do meet up with them it's a whole new distraction toward the team. You are paying him anyway so there is no need to rush him out of here to play for anybody. Especially someone in your division.

Or he'll leave after 15 minutes and sit in his car/truck again.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Either way, it really doesn't matter at this point.

If nothing good comes of the meeting - Marbury is going to get sent home for the rest of the year - where he can wait for his contract to expire.

If something good comes out of the meeting - Marbury is going to get bought out and free to go where he wants next week.

In both scenarios, as far as I am concerned, it's over then because there is then nothing else to discuss on the buy out matter since it'd be _entirely_ moot to strike up new talks after next week.

...as to anyone worrying about Marbury going to the Celtics to kick us out of the 1st round of the playoffs.

*Will Boston be in first?
*Will the Knicks be in eighth?
*So without Marbury the Knicks can unseat the Celtics in the playoffs but with Marbury the C's crush the Knicks?

Eh...not feeling it as a reason to keep him. Worry about us.

We get good money back, Steph walks. We don't, Steph walks home never to be heard from until he expires legally in July.

Either way, I still maintain, it ends next week. It's a good thing.

Teams are desperate for financial relief and the Knicks eat a $20 million expiring contract out of spite.

Where's the logic in that?

well, the Hornets certainly tried to, but it was rescinded. you can argue that Kings trade had financial elements - Drew Gooden's expiring deal vs Miller being signed thru 2010, as well as the Bulls trading Hughes to us (they do save about $1M on the deal).

Sac and NO for 2. And plenty of others are looking for relief. How many teams are taking out loans? The Knicks have 1 blatant advantage over most teams and they chose spite.
