Bottom line: Knicks are soft

To best understand the mindset of the Knicks, go back to last Friday’s loss to Boston when Kevin Garnett took a cheap shot at Danilo Gallinari by elbowing the rookie in the chest.
The referees caught Garnett’s cowardly act - ever notice how Garnett would never do that to LeBron, Shaq, Rasheed, or Duncan? - and rightly whistled the Celtics All-Star for a technical foul.
Justice was served. Or was it? Where was the Knicks veteran to stand up to Garnett for an immediate response? In the second half, Al Harrington nudged Garnett to the floor after Garnett was whistled for a traveling violation. The fall was much more dramatic than the shove and Harrington too was given a technical.
Following Kobe Bryant’s 61-point outburst last week, Karl Malone criticized the Knicks for failing to deliver even one hard foul to Kobe. I can only imagine the look on Malone’s face had he been watching Tuesday’s loss to Golden State, a game in which the Knicks surrendered 144 points.
To recap: Kobe went for 61, LeBron for 52, the Celtics scored 38 in the fourth quarter, Brandon Roy scored a lay-up at the buzzer and Golden State nearly scored 150. That’s five straight losses where the Knicks were softer than soft. If only the anger they have toward Jeff Van Gundy could manifest on the basketball court.
The tendency now is to look at the box score and marvel at the pinball-machine-like numbers that everyone - from David Lee to Nate Robinson - are putting up. That’s great for your fantasy basketball league but the reality is the Knicks entered Wednesday’s game against the Clippers nine games under .500.
That is the only number that matters. And until the Knicks show a greater commitment to the defensive end, show more toughness and grit, they won’t be a playoff team.

Someone posted a clip recently of Garnett slapping Tim Duncan in the head.

Isn't Isola the same guy who said that Isiah should be fired for giving the goon orders to Mardy Collins in that Nuggets game. I like Isola but you can't have it both ways.

I knew Gallinari would get treatment from Garnett. He fits all Garnett dislikes:
1) white European player
2) guy who likes to fist pump after doing something
3) rookie

So this is news that this Knicks team is soft? Yeah we don't have any defensive beasts or guys who are known enforcers , in fact we have Chandler and Gallo as our two best young talents, Chan being quiet as a mouse and Gallo too new to really have a voice even tho i think he's gonna eventually be a leader. Lee is a lunch pale guy who mostly keeps his mouth shut. Nate is the most vocal and provocative and he's not big enough to intimidate anyone.

I really can't get too caught up in that at this stage of the teams development. Not when we know big changes are due, before this team really can be built properly. It's just the way it has to be right now.

David lee is the softest of them all, I know he's not a true center, but he runs from anyone penetrating the lane....He literally runs FROM ANYONE. Im not sure it's becuase he doesnt want to pick up a foul knowing that we have no depth at the position, but it is truly sad.

My former co-worker believes this to be the case. He also said that Lee doesn't like getting posterize on dunks which is something I notice too. A shotblocker has to be willing to look bad as Zo said once because they will get posterize. It is the nature of being a shotblocker.

Watching Thabeet right now against the Orange men. Guys have to pump fake 3 or 4 times in the lane, move out of the lane and reset just to try to get off a shot. That what a good shotblocker provides, intimidation. Doesn't need to block every shot but throw a monkey wrench in the opposition flow and gameplan. You get shot clock violations and turnovers.

You rarely hear about physically tough offensive teams. The Knicks do not play like that and their coach does not coach like that. There were alot of other coaching canidates who would have emphasized defense and toughness but Walsh chose D'Antoni. You can say that Jax and JVG's recent comments were because of bad blood but I think they honestly are frustrated that the team they gave everything to does not have that focus or intensity now.

I knew that there was something wrong with our defense- glad this guy explained it to me.

Well I'd have to agree with the fact the Knicks are soft....they also are a bunch of rejects put together....Q-rich and his bum back and worthless game, Timmy and his lazy game, Duhon the reject from the Bulls, Jared the starting center???, Nate the side show, Wilson, and Gallo aka deer in the headlight brothers, al "superstar in his mind" harrington, Fat piece of **** Curry....

face it...the team is just not that good. Now are they well coached? yes!!! is d'antoni preaching toughness and defense? yes he is...does he have rough guys like Clevlan, Detroit, boston, or any other good team? noooo heeee dosennnntttttt!!! will the time come? yes....contracts have to fall by the waist side and donnie has to continue to bring in guys that can play. Knicks could be 9 games under .500....but they also could be the laughing stock of the league and they aren't anymore....

seriously....if i said Q-rich was your starting shooting guard, jared is the center, Duhon is your point guard and al harrington and David lee are the other forwards....LAST YEAR....wouldn't you think this team had no chance in hell to even win a game?

yeah so to hell with Isola...go knicks
