Every time I see one of the 2010 posts, people are looking forward to 2010 Knicks rosters that include two max players AND...

Duhon, Nate, Lee, Al and other players who most certainly do not fit into that salary cap dream

Let's please set the record straight

Here's our 2010 roster according to the assumed Walsh plan
1 - Curry
2 - Jeffries
3 - Gallo
4 - Chandler
5 - Max Player
6 - Max Player
7 - 2009 #1 (players projected in the Knicks slot *NBA Draft.net - Damion James, Jeff Teague, Demar DeRozen, Stephen Curry)
8 - 2010 #2
9 - NBA min salary exception
10- NBA min salary exception
11- NBA min salary exception
12- NBA min salary exception
13- NBA min salary exception
14- NBA min salary exception

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Al Harrington is DEFINITELY NOT a keeper and Nate Robinson isn't either, as much as I wanted to believe he was earlier in the year. I pray that Walsh can package those two with Curry to someone who's in the market for fools gold

The solutions to the completely gutted roster are

- you trade Lee and or Nate for 2010 picks that can be signed after the Max players
- you package Jeffries or Curry with Lee or Nate in order to resign Lee or Nate to their salary slot
- Trade the 2009 pick to Utah for our 2010 pick, would give us slightly more cap room and you'd think we'll be terrible in 2010 with no Nate or Lee so in theory it would be a better pick
- Trade one of the 09 expirings for a 2010 expiring, save the other team some money and maybe get back a low pick

I'm no GM, but's that's about all I can think of

anyone else?

That issue is sort of confusing. If we don't use it next year, and we hit the cap with the Max signings in 2010, don't we have a Mid-level exception as well?

no because we will have cap space in 2010 regardless... u can't get the MLE in a year that ur team has cap space, even if u use up all ur cap to sign up other players... that's not what the MLE was intended for.

JW, 1 other note i might add, since Lee & Nate aren't part of that roster u would have to assume that Walsh had traded both those guys at the deadline this season (i doubt he would just let them walk for nothing back)... so u probably can also factor in 2 more 1st round picks as part of that overall picture in 2010.

If Walsh does that, then that would be good. Who knows if he'll get that done though. The clock is ticking.

All I know is that we can't resign either of them and sign two max players.

let's say he trades Nate for an additional pick & takes someone like Teague or Stephen Curry w/that pick to fill Nate's role... i don't see that as such a bad trade off personally... we not only gain flexibility in 2010, but we retain a young talented G who can score who's locked up longterm to rookie scale dollars.

i think the following roster can realistically be achieved in 2010 if u trade Lee & Nate at the deadline:

1 - Max Player
2 - Max Player
3 - Curry
4 - Jefferies
5 - Gallo
6 - Chandler
7 - 2009 #1 (Patrick Patterson or Greg Monroe)
8 - 2009 #1 via trade (Stephen Curry or Jeff Teague)
9 - 2009 #1 via trade (Demar Derozan or Chase Budinger)
10 - 2010 #2 via DEN
11- NBA min salary vet
12- NBA min salary vet
13- NBA min salary vet
14- NBA min salary vet

or if u want u can try & package those 3 1st rounders to move up to the top 5 & take someone like Jordan Hill, Brandon Jennings or Hasheem Thabeet.

What is our GM's plan for Lee and Nate because I don't see any residual in your itemizations? Like does he let them Walk? Does he trade them and get back Assets? If so what caliber of assets does he get back?

All I'm saying is that we can't keep Lee or Nate or Duhon or anyone who we'd have to resign in 2010.

To keep one of them and still have room to sign two max players, we'd have to move Curry or Jeffries for expirings.

Another hidden gem of this plan is that 2009/10 is going to completely blow. We can't afford to trade Nate and Lee for 2009 picks either because those picks would eat into the 2010 cap.

We'd have to trade them for 2010 picks.

There are only a few weeks left for Walsh to move Lee and Nate to teams that could use them this year. After that, you're looking at sign and trade deals for expirings and picks which will get complicated.

By the way, for those of you that think that if we dont get LeBron Joe Johnson will be a good consolation prize I hope you were paying close attention to the last Knicks-Hawks game. Without LeBron James, all getting Joe Johnson would mean is going to the playoffs only to be bounced by Lebron's team. With that said, who here thinks we are definitely getting LeBron?

getting only Joe Johnson won't do anything for us but make us a perennial #6 seed... if we miss out on Lebron & Wade we gotta make sure we can sign Joe Johnson & Bosh or Amare... JJ is not a franchise calibre superstar player... he's a notch below, which certainly isn't a bad thing, but u gotta have another guy to be the guy u build around & JJ is not that guy.

Not even 4949 is going to take a stab at who's gonna be here and who's gonna be gone for 2010-11. Because no one knows. Not even Donnies knows. I can't even say if it's going to be big. Nothing 's coming through to mind to tell me anything of what is to come. I feel no excitement, but I feel no fear either. It's all kind of.......................limbo like.

I would like a moratorium on all proposals for the 2010 pick that utah got from us. Think of it as an ex girlfriend who got married and has kids. It is not coming back.

If they're smart they won't give it back. Without Lee and Nate we're a little effed.

It's hard to believe that our future is really tied to one dude who may or may not want to play for us a couple of years from now.

i know joe's a legitimately good player but i just don’t like his game. i was at the hawk game and spent stretches just watching him and not the ball. the guy should have taken over the game and forced the action at several points . . . and didn’t. he has the skill but not the mindset. he’s a great #2 player but not a #1. which means he's too expensive if he closes out your option to get a #1.
