Dallas trade for Kidd also included their no. 1 pick and they did not protect it.

Dallas is currently the 8th seed in the west. Only Utah could give them a hard time.

While it won't be a high pick, it could still be lotto.

Nets are quietly doing some good things.

The Nets are franchise that's consistently run well. They made The Finals, bought at the right times, and sold at the right times.

Thats why they have no fan base.

There either must be some real self-hating Knick fans in this piece, or closet swamp fans because I dont see how the Nets are getting props around here. Yeah, they straight went up in Cuban's house and jacked everything but the bath towels, but that says more about the Mavs' desperation than anything.

As a franchise they have been alright. They took advantage of an absolute garbage east earlier this decade. Since their run, they have been ok. I dont see the need to nuthug those fools.

Hows Yi working out? laugh.

I can't think of a trade where Thorn has not done very well. He also has a great draft record. He gets it and the Nets made a run, revamped and got a jump start on rebuilding. The Kidd trade was brilliant without the draft pick.

Overstating a bit IMHO. I submit the following, all first round picks: Antoine Wright, Marcus Williams, Sean Williams, (so far) Ryan Anderson.

They're young, cheap assets. No pick is surefire, and I'll submit that that franchise is consistently heading in the right direction: adding pieces when needed and rebuilding when needed

No pick is surefire?? C'mon doggie, those are scrubs. If those were Zeke or Walsh's picks we would be going apeshyt around here....See, that's exactly what I'm talking about.

Why are the Nets so loved and protected on their crosstown rival's website?

Marbury becomes Kidd
Eddie Griffen becomes Richard Jefferson
Aaron Williams, Mourning, Eric Williams becomes Vince Carter

Kidd becomes Devin Harris and a draft pick
Brook Lopez with the 10th pick

Who gives a **** about your draft record if you can make these things happen

Seb,

Once upon a time there was the championship Knicks. They won in 1973. In 1974 the Nets got this Dr. J fella and won two ABA championships. That was a long time ago, but Watching DR. J was magic back then. The Nets are still a Metro area team that gets a lot of press. Thus, many still follow them. Kind of like Mets/yanks. Some love one and hate the other, many like both.

Back in the day, one could be a NY basketball fan and enjoy both teams in their respective leagues.

You don't have to agree, but this might help understand.

The team might still come to Brooklyn, and be even more relevent.

Sure the fan base is suburban, which means more white fans. They are band wagon jumpers. So what. I watch the team, not the fans.

Vince may be soft, but at least he was not sent home. He will be traded soon enough. He still is a great player and fun to watch.

Nets, like most teams don't hit the jackpot with every draft pick. But they are a well run franchise regarding personal and are rebuilding.

Lebron is brooklyn is a real big story if it plays out that way. They have more parts to compliment a superstar at this moment.

And if it plays out, Knicks are losing market share. Bandwagon suburbanites and a whole generation of urban youth will pile on that hype.

No nut hugging.

Walsh has an even better "water into wine" resume, turning junk and low picks into players like O'Neal, Rose, Artest, Brad Miller, Granger...ext.

Again, I could see if the Nets were on some Orlando Magic, Boston Celtics stuff right now, but they are practically just as mediocre and inconsistent right now as we are.

C'mon Nalod...NOBODY was checkin' for the Nets when they became the swamp from the 80-90s. They were terrible for about twenty years and everybody considered them an embarrassment.

While I agree there isnt a vitriolic relationship between Nets/Knicks, there certainly isnt any love. I just find it funny, that the Nets have a couple of good years and a couple of good trades and all of a sudden they are some model franchise around here.

You cats need to go on Dr. Phil and get your self esteem up. To hell with the Nets, I'm not feelin' their camel owner either.

Any pick that doesn't where a Knick uniform is a good pick. Didn't you get the memo?

Ryan Anderson? He's better than Gallinari and he was taken 15 picks later than Il Bustino.

since rod thorn took over, they have been to 2 finals and in the playoffs almost every year until last season. that's a major accomplishment. he has basically bent over 3 gm's already in deals in a very inappropriate way...like in a adibisi on oz kind of way...

we'll see where it goes in 2010 but imho, they have the smartest front office in the nba.

6'10" forward/center who's shooting 37.3% from the field on the year. You can have him.
