Well, we'll see. I guess it's irresistible to get carried away - one way or the other - on this topic. We'll be able to make a more intelligent judgment as he plays more. It's obvious that he does need to get stronger and he's not a great athlete. He's more quick than fast. But he seems to have a very good shot, he's able to handle the ball very well for a big, he's a good passer and not a bad defender. I like the part of that clip above, when he was driving then pulled up for the intermediate range jumper. You don't often see a rookie do that.

Ira, you don't see that pull up often, no way. You're right. To me, that looked like a superstar move. Everything he did in that game, that youtube clip, is absolutely INCREDIBLE, BRO. FUTuRe MVP.

It may be too early to evaluate his "athletic ability." You can see that his legs are still not there yet- he has much better rise in the Italian clips you can find online.
I want to see that left hand I got used to seeing in the YouTube highlights. He is totally ambidextrous when driving to the basket and can get full extension with a very nice touch on his off hand shots. We have still not seen him go to the foul line- where he used to go 5-7 times per game in Europe. If I recall correctly, he was a little bigger in the upper body at the summer league. I hope that his back, which I believe was injured through poor lifting technique, does not keep him from working on his upper body during the off season. I really wanted us to get this kid in the draft, but I am cautious by nature in terms of making predictions on players (I have been wrong on enough players to know that predicting how a player will turn out is more like gambling than science.). However, IF his back does not become an issue again, and IF his athletic ability reaches the level that it was when he played in Europe, and improves as he fills out and becomes a "man," I don't see why he can't be a top 20-25 player in this league and get into a few All-Star games at some point in his career. Would people be happy with 18-20 PPG, 7-9 RPG, 4-6 APG, 1+ BPG, 1+ SPG, and 40% from the 3pt line? I don't see why he can't reach those numbers if he remains uninjured and ends up at about 235 lbs and 6'11". I can't even remember when was the last time we picked up a "special" player in the draft. M. Jackson? Ewing? If things go right, Gallo can be a special player- versatile and multifaceted , smart, personable, leadership abilities, a guy you can build a team around, competitive and a winner. He has given us a little taste of what he can be- I only hope that he is the real deal and not some kind of mirage. No man is happy without a delusion of some kind. Delusions are as necessary to our happiness as realities- C.N. Bovee

I really think the kid has the tools to be special, there are some guys that just understand and have a feel for the game out there and I think he is one of them.
I really like what Chandler brings and think he has a very unique skill set, but we really need to get Eddy off the team and the only way to do so is by giving up someone. I would much rather give up Wilson then Lee, because I think Gallo/Lee are winning players that can bring a championship to this city. The kid can really shot the ball, once his confidence and his legs are there he is going to put up big numbers. |

Posted by MS: You won't have to get rid of anyone if you can get Eddy on the court and inflate his numbers. Some team will take a chance on him. |

He is 320 pounds and couldn't run up and down the court for 2 minutes, no one is taking him, no one

I like those highlights - I admit I was skeptical with the whole back think, but he definitely has potential. Lets see how he develops.

Hahaha, good one, and very true. Maybe one day he will go to his home planet to rest. It is probably Pluto or maybe in another galaxy far away.

I love that as a big man, he can jab step to fake his defender and shoot. Impressive.

I think it is clear the kid can score in this league. He has good instincts with his fakes and moves. He has an excellent jumpshot, which he should have no trouble getting off at 6'10". Thus, it is clear he can score. He also looks like he can be a solid passer and will work in our offense. The only question is can he stay healthy, can he defend, and can he rebound. If can do those things, then it looks like we got a good player.

Just something to not lose sight of fellas, what we are seeing is a guy playing in essentially his 3rd or 4th game this year. He is clearly not in shape, so he is getting by on what is upstairs. If you look at his old highlights/games you can see someone who is a very very hard worker and shockingly enough, a physical player. A guy who plays FOR the team. A guy who does what makes others better.
So, we essentially have a 20 year old rookie who is giving us 15-20 great minutes a night who is not even in shape yet. I mean, is that a little scary? Look at how after injuries players take lots of time to get back their game. I just (still) got this feeling about Gallo, that he is going to be Much Much more than we think. I'll go further and say he is going to hold his own on the defensive end. Having a father who was the countries greatest defender of all time is enough tutelage for me. You can "analyze" till the cows come home but it's my heart (which the ancients say is the real mind) that is feeling something about this kid. Most of us who have seen him play are only bringing up stats to help support what we can't quantify. In a way, the things we were saying about Lee (E.g. - IQ, good passer, team player, etc.) hold true with Gallo but to an even larger extent. (He is already a MUCH better and more AWARE defender imo.) Looking foward to the next twenty or so games from him to see where he gets. Let's just hope Gallo's health is ok, really, I think most of us can agree that that is the deciding factor with this kid. EMS, you are SO on the money with that last post that it's not even funny. I'm not la ughing. I'm enjoying intellectually rolling around naked in the points you've just made. I love Gallo, The Rooster is a future MVP, but I haven't taken the time to crystalize my views like this. Props! GO ROOSTER

Posted by Knicksfansince94: Thanks man. You know sports becomes so much like corporate X's and O's, and we miss the individual and those things we can't just put inside a box. As the great Philosopher Alan Watts said, "to have an inside means you got to have an outside. They are not independent of eachother." or something like that. The point being, see the whole picture, go beyond the rational and don't forget that whole other part of you that feels (and I just don't mean emotions). It's real clear that people here see that with Gallo, but are having problems putting it in words, well... cause you just don't see it that often.
